Posted : 25 Jan, 2022 11:08 PM One of my most memorable times was when I was serving in the navy onboard a nuclear fast attack submarine in the Atlantic. USS skipjack. We were in st.croix in the virgin islands on port call when we had to cut it short and pull out because of a hurricane building streagth heading our way. One of my duties was driving the submarine and my time at the wheel was as hurricane Hugo was passing over top us heading on to destroy Florida. We were down deep enough to not feel the the devestation going on at the surface until we had to come up to 250 ft to empty water tanks. That was crazy at 250 ft below the surface of hurricane Hugo. The submarine was almost impossible to keep level. I was fighting with it until we went back down deeper. I think I might have said a few prayers while this was happening . Post Reply
