My Thoughts on Ultimate Beauty

Why is it that when I type Ultimate Beauty into the google images search engine, the first page is filled with models, actresses, and images of make-up? I have seen beautiful men & women, and while I believe them to be attractive, my spirit does not pause for them. My first thought at the words ultimate beauty are of events in my life in which Nature was on display, in all of its glory. Indeed, if Creation is only a shadow of who God is, then shouldnt he be considered Magnificent, the Ultimate Beauty?

I find it beautiful when a newborn is in the room. I find it beautiful when a persons heart and attitudes are warm and open to strangers. I find that beauty lies not in the appearance of something, but in that things nature and purpose.

It is the nature of a woman to wish to please herself by pleasing others (whether in appearance or behavior, usually both), thus she is beautiful. It is the nature of men and women to seek the answers to hard questions, thus they are beautiful. It is the purpose of mankind to Glorify God by acting as a demonstration of His love for us and acting as an example of our Love and Trust in Him, thus WE are beautiful.

Very nicely written! :) I agree with you! and...just a little in addition to that, although make-up can enhance and bring out the natural beauty, using a little is o.k. but alot I just don't agree with. To me natural beauty is better, and we should strive to eat and live right as God would want us to to keep the natural beauty He gave us..........I mean I don't believe all them back in those days wore make-up!

again good post!

I see beauty in nature. But even economics is beautiful when you think about it. And of course, mathematics is definitely beautiful. Just look at this computer-generated animation. It's amazing!

So eloquently expressed. What you have written resonates with me. The source of beauty, the Lord of creation, who spoke all things into being, who sustains the universe, must be considered Himself Ultimate Beauty. He created all things for His pleasure, Calvin regarded the universe and the world as a kind of "theatre" where His glory might be staged as it were. We are as Shakespeare wrote, we men and women, players upon this earthly stage.

I love this quote from Thomas Aquinas "Beauty is the splendor of order" That reveals something divine, regarding the nature of beauty. My vocation as a pianist for schools of classical ballet and my love of choreography, touches something deep within my being. Athleticism, lyricism, spatial relationships made visible, time that is danced "through" Great art and music. ( though art necessarily addresses suffering, cruelty and the displacement of the sense of the divine as well) ditto the savage primal power of Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring"

Beauty can too easily be exalted. The Romantic poet John Keats wrote "Beauty is Truth, Truth is Beauty" Sometimes they align and as you have alluded not always.

A final thought: our Lord is described in Isaiah 53 in this way ' He has no form or comeliness, And when we see Him there is no beauty that we should desire Him"
