Sabbath 8/4/18 Seventh Day Baptist Edgewater Pastor John sermon Positive Intolerance Galatians 1:6-11, II Timothy 4:3-4

=============================================================================================

The Galatian church was in a mostly Gentile city that worshipped other gods/idols. Paul is telling the Church to not listen to other types of preaching but to only listen to preaching about Jesus Christ. Paul is saying that the Gospel he is preaching is Gods Gospel and not mans gospel. Now because Christians were intolerant to other beliefs, they were persecuted by the Romans and other groups who were against having only one god.

There are both intolerances and tolerances that we need as Christians. The belief that all roads lead to Heaven is an intolerance and should not be tolerated. The belief that you can know that a group is wrong but you can admire their tenacity is another intolerance that should not be tolerated. Both of these things we should not do or tolerate just as God was not tolerant of Sodom & Gomorrahs sin. We should not be tolerant or tolerate sin. We need to also be intolerant of the misuse of scriptures by different people, groups and churches.

In verse 6, Paul said he was astonished that the Church had strayed away from Jesus and had followed false doctrines. In second Timothy, Paul says that the time will come when people will not listen to sound doctrine. They will go after their own lusts and heap to themselves teachers saying what they want to hear. They will turn away from the truth, having itching ears and listen to fables and lies.

**False Teachers/Preachers:

======================

a. They will become victims of their own success. At first they start out preaching the Word for Jesus. But then they get caught up in their Pride. They get Proud in how many people come to their churches. They get Proud in how many books they sell. They get Proud in how many tapes/DVDs they sell. They preach a Santa Claus religion.

b. They settle for just preaching only certain parts of the Gospel message. They do this because some parts of the Gospel may offend people and they dont want to do that.

c. They become pre-occupied with wealth because of the no-tax status of the Church and its money. They buy 5 million dollar houses. They have all their family members be the church elders/deacons/bookkeepers. They have 20 million dollar planes and 15 million dollar yachts. All of these are in their churchs name so no taxes. Some of the top TV evangelists make between 27 million to 100 million dollars a year.

We, on the other hand, are to Trust in God First before we trust in any preachers. Any preacher we sit in front of or listen to, should preach Gods Truth whether it offends anybody or not!! Jesus told us to beware of false prophets. He said they will devour the widows money. Again, we need to listen to those who are preaching Gods Gospel and NOT mans gospel.

AMEN
