How are you viewing sisters in Christ?

That's a very interesting point of view and makes sense. I would never have thought of that. Nice job.

Every good thing comes from God... and calamities?...
Posted : 14 Jan, 2010 05:49 PM

There are lots of good thoughts on this post. Sorry if I repeat any of them, but I thought I'd share my thoughts.

I believe that all good things come from God (see James 1; James is one of my favorite books) and that God does no evil. People are often near-sighted and presumptuous. They see trials and tragedies and fail to look at them beyond face value. They assume that because something seems bad to them, it must be evil (likewise, they assume everything that seems good to them must be good).

It may seem like your car breaking down is a bad thing, but who knows for sure (except God)? Perhaps God wants to delay you for your safety (as said in a previous post). Perhaps He is punishing you (in which case, it would be for your good or some good, no matter how unfair or wrong it may seem). Then again, maybe your car breaking down was neither good nor bad; sometimes things just happen. Maybe somebody had it out for you and sabotaged your car out of his/her own free will. It's hard to say for sure.

looks?
Posted : 8 Jan, 2010 06:17 PM

That's interesting... I have three possible reasons.

1. Men in the city have many more women to choose from, so they can afford to be attracted to only the best-looking women.

2. There is more in the city that can corrupt men, making them lose sight of the non-physical beauty of women.

3. City life is more fast-paced, so maybe men there don't take as much time to get to know and appreciate women for more than their looks.

crime, would you turn your child in?
Posted : 24 Dec, 2009 07:27 PM

It depends on the crime and the age of the child, among other possible things. I can't tackle every angle and situation, but here is my basic train of thought:

If the crime is "small" enough and/or the child is "young" enough, then I would not call the police. In such a situation, I would tell the offended party what my child did (or perhaps take my child to the offended party and have him/her confess and apologize) and work out an appropriate punishment. I would not want to waste police resources on something that could be handled without them (such as a 6-year-old stealing something).

Thinking before posting
Posted : 20 Dec, 2009 09:18 AM

Yes, I do the same sort of thing, only I usually don't bother writing the thoughts down. I think doing this has saved me many a times from putting my foot in my mouth; from being hypocritical, inaccurate, or insensitive. When I do finally decide to write something to post, I'll read it over quite a few times to make sure I'm not doing any of these things. It's not fool-proof, but it helps.

I don't understand...

The example you gave does not make sense to me either. Murder implies that the person intended on killing. Both the man who murdered his family and a woman who gets an abortion intend on killing the fetus. If the fetus is counted as part of the woman and not as a separate human being, then it wouldn't make sense to change the murder count from two to three people. So I would conclude from that judgment that the fetus is legally a person...the law doesn't make sense to me.

winks

I see them as a fun way of saying hi. They are a simple way of letting someone know you are interested. The only time I don't like them is when the girl's profile has little to nothing in it. It's hard to respond to a wink when that happens.

Share your feelings.
Posted : 11 Oct, 2009 04:54 PM

Hi,

I'm a thinker too, and I think I know what you are talking about. It is very hard for me to find others to share thoughts and feelings with at the same level.

There are many possible reasons as to why a person does not share thoughts and feelings. Here are some I can think of:

1. people can be shallow, selfish, and self-centered

2. some people were taught by their culture, family, or friends to not share a lot about themselves.

3. that is just the way some people are, and they do not find discussing thoughts and feelings interesting

4. some people do not feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and feelings; if attacked, they may feel as though they are being attacked, rather than their ideas.

Not so comfortable....

I've had several experiences with scammers, and he definitely sounds like one. They often like to rush things and will drop communication in a heartbeat if it looks like they aren't getting what they want. Even if he isn't a scammer, his behavior his still worrisome. I would stay away.
