Can anybody clearly and concisely explain what this passage means? I'm rather confused by it. Thank you.

San Diego country backs down on home bible study
Posted : 30 May, 2009 07:19 PM

Interesting story. Unless there is more to it, I don't think there is much to worry about here. It should be quite easy to show that preventing people from studying the Bible in someone's home is unconstitutional. I'm shocked that San Diego County would even consider such a thing.

persuasive arguments
Posted : 25 May, 2009 06:37 PM

It's good to see that a lot of people on this site are passionate about what they believe in, but I have a bit of advice for those trying to construct a successful persuasive argument.

First, it's a good idea to proofread what you typed. It's hard to read and respect an argument with inconsistencies and errors in it.

Second, it's not a good idea to use loaded words and phrases. If you do, the person whose mind you are trying to change will likely close his/her mind to your way of thinking and retaliate in self-defense. Both sides will likely end up wasting their time and energy. Arguments fueled by anger also tend to be ineffective because they are written hastily and have pieces of logic missing from them.

Other than that, I appreciate hearing everyone's different points of view.

"Pulling the plug"

I remember talking about this issue in philosopy class, and it is a tough one. A lot of different factors can be involved here, but I think Jeffro's answer is very good. I believe you would be keeping God's commandment by honoring your mother's request. I feel for you. My father has advanced cancer as well. Hang in there.

A N T HE M-Strategies for Fighting Lust

I particularly like how ANTHEM can be applied to temptations in general and how John Piper found these separate strategies in the Bible and fused them into one comprehensive anthem.

Which Denomination is the correct Denomination?
Posted : 10 Apr, 2009 06:31 PM

I think you hit the nail on the head with the first several sentences of your third paragraph. I believe the correct (perfect) 'denomination' is the one that only God knows about. We can follow God to the best of our ability, but we will still fall short of discovering it.

As for keeping the Sabbath, I once asked a friend what she thought was the proper day for it. She said perhaps it's more important that it is kept than that it is kept on a certain day. That sounds right to me. I would be interested to know if any Bibles out there do tag it as a specific day.

Good posts.

As a christian what kind of music should we stay away from?
Posted : 25 Feb, 2009 06:01 PM

I see what you mean and agree with it to an extent, but I think depressing music can be okay to listen to depending on the situation. For example, if you're depressed for whatever reason, listening to certain depressing music can actually make you feel better. Music can be like medicine. Taken in the right amounts, under the right circumstances, it can be good for you. People are all wired differently too. Certain types of music may affect one person in one way and another person in a different way.

I knew someone would ask this eventually : ). I've wondered about this before too. I actually just came across this passage after I read your post (not that it's very helpful in answering your question, but it is related): Ecclesiastes 3:19-21. I don't recall another passage about the subject, so I'm interested to see what others come up with.
