Free wilPosted : 9 Jan, 2009 05:10 PMGood question. I've always found free will to be a very interesting topic. I think the story of Jonah is meant, at least partially, to show that it is best not to question God's motives--that if we obey Him from the start, we will be better off. God's will was for Jonah to preach in Ninevah, and His will cannot be overcome. Jonah had free will in some sense, because he chose to disobey God and run away, among other things. Ultimately though, I don't think he had free will. If God wanted him to preach in Ninevah, there's really nothing he could do to avoid it.

Now how about swearing?Posted : 6 Nov, 2008 09:09 PMI don't like swearing either, as it makes me uneasy. My mother taught me not to swear, but I eventually had to decide for myself to avoid it. I believe it detracts from intelligent speech and see it as a lack of self-control. Due to the latter point and the fact that children often begin swearing as a means of fitting in with their friends, I can see how one would see it as immature. I cannot see when it would ever be necessary. Then there's this passage as well: Colossians 3:5-8.

Am I Doing Something Wrong?Posted : 12 Sep, 2008 07:07 PMYour profile is fine. I've run into the same situation several times before. There are many possible reasons as to why you haven't received a response. I wouldn't think too much into it. Personally, I just shrug it off when it happens.

repentancePosted : 12 Sep, 2008 06:36 PMMaybe this is too obvious for a first step (I'll list a second step in case it is), but I would say that the first step towards repenting is recognition/understanding of the sin that was committed. If a person can't recognize a sin when (s)he commits it, how can (s)he properly repent for it? I would say admitting that the sin is one's own fault is the second step.
