About Me
I like:

Running – I used to use a stopwatch to time my marathons, now I need a calendar. Whatever the pace, I love the serenity of stopping in the middle of a long run to admire the view, just me, the countryside and the knowledge that the effort and sweat to get there was worth it.

Being a soccer linesman at my local club – there’s nothing like being shouted at by 22 women for 90 minutes followed by handshakes and thanks at the end.

Cooking – I like making pasta dishes, casseroles, mousse, sticky date pudding, but my only attempt at a cheesecake looked like it was topped with runny cement (tasted good though).

Live music and karaoke – I prefer rock gigs in small venues, but will accompany you to a stadium gig if that’s what you enjoy. My karaoke favourites are Soft Cell, Jackie Wilson and, if if I tighten my trousers, Kate Bush. Just don’t forget your earplugs.

Travelling – my favourite countries visited so far are Italy, Vietnam and Argentina. If you ever wondered what a Scouser (I’m from Liverpool UK) trying to speak Spanish sounds like, now’s your chance to find out.

Going to church regularly, usually with my daughter.

Visiting a gallery or museum with much enthusiasm, then passing out after an hour gagging for coffee.

Pretending I don’t like P!nk just to be contrary.

Literature – mainly English classics like Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, also a George Orwell fan.

Sleeping in for a whole hour on Saturdays before my 8-year-old cute alarm clock asks for breakfast

MY PERFECT MATCH

First the dealbreakers – no smokers please, must be within 50km of me and your photo should have no sunglasses. I want to see your eyes as they are my favourite part of a woman – the window to her soul.

On the plus side, my perfect match is an attractive woman with whom I can have good conversations about a wide range of topics. I don’t like meanness or intolerance – it costs nothing to be kind. If you share my vaguely leftish political views and my faith, that’s wonderful but not essential.

The perfect woman for me will be between 45 and 60 and fun to be around. She’ll be happy for both of us to have our “own” time but look forward to our special times together. If you have eyes so deep I can lose myself in them, you’ve got me. You don’t have to run marathons but should take care of yourself. I don’t expect you to keep up with me on the roads or trails but if you do, I’ll be unbelievably impressed and will love you forever.

OK so that sounds like a lot, but I’m at the point where I deserve to be happy, and so does my special lady, whoever she may be. However, these are just guidelines, so please don’t be afraid to write to me. If we agree to go on a date we have nothing to lose except a little time.

My philosophy on love – “Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own”. Not my words but they resonate with me, so why not?
First Date
Let’s keep it simple for a first date. A casual lunch or coffee, followed by a nice walk somewhere relaxing, so we can get to know each other a little to see if there’s that spark we are all searching for.

In a perfect world, as we walked along, we would subconsciously start holding hands as we talked. We’d laugh, and if we shared something that made us cry, we’d hug.

If things were going well, the date would end with a tender kiss and a warm embrace.

I’d go home feeling 10 feet tall, counting the days till our next date like a teenager.
