- About Me
-
I’m Ray. I’m a worship leader, songwriter, composer, chainsaw carver, log builder, adventurer, and lifelong collector of stories that usually begin with, “Well, this seemed like a good idea at the time…” 😂
Jesus is at the center of my life. I don’t just want faith to be something I talk about on Sunday. I want to follow His footsteps into the places where people are hurting. I care deeply about serving people who are hungry, homeless, struggling with addiction, lonely, forgotten, or simply need someone willing to sit beside them and listen. I’m far from perfect, but I want my life to leave fingerprints of Christ wherever I go.
I’m also an explorer at heart. Give me an old logging road, a riverbank, a mountain, an interesting rock formation, or somewhere on the map I’ve never been, and I’m probably going to want to know what’s around the next corner. I love rockhounding, sunsets, spontaneous adventures, beautiful places, and those completely unplanned moments that somehow become the stories you remember for the rest of your life.
Music is a huge part of me. I write songs, compose music, lead worship, and write Scripture-based stage productions. If I fall in love with you, there is a statistically unreasonable probability that songs will be written about you. 😂 Better yet, I’d love a relationship where we write some of them together. I’m not looking for somebody to merely stand in the audience of my life. I want a woman beside me creating the music, exploring the trails, serving people,
until we can’t breathe, praying together, and building a story that belongs to both of us.
I build things with my hands. Cabins, logs, carvings, whatever needs building. There’s something satisfying about taking something rough and discovering what it can become. Apparently that philosophy also applies to dad jokes, because I have spent years carefully crafting some truly terrible ones.
Fair warning: I will use them.
Frequently.
Without remorse.
I’m romantic, but not interested in romance that only works while everything is easy. I want the kind of relationship where two people deliberately keep moving toward one another. I don’t want a woman who has to chase me to know whether she matters. I want to be the man who moves toward her, learns her heart, protects what we build together, and keeps choosing her.
I want adventures. I want ridiculous laughter. I want quiet sunsets where nobody needs to say anything. I want prayers whispered together when life gets hard. I want to discover places neither of us has seen, serve people who can never repay us, make music together, and someday look through decades of memories and realize that somewhere along the way, all those ordinary Tuesdays became a beautiful life.
I’m not looking for perfect.
I’m looking for a woman who genuinely loves Jesus, has a compassionate heart, still possesses some curiosity about this enormous world God made, and wouldn’t mind sharing it with a slightly unconventional man carrying a guitar, a rock hammer, and an alarming inventory of dad jokes.
If that sounds suspiciously like you, come say hello.
Worst-case scenario, you get a dad joke.
Best-case scenario?
Maybe we find out what’s around the next corner together. ❤️
- First Date
- There are actually two answers to this question: the first date I’d plan for you, and the first date I’d hope someday you’d plan for me.
The one I’d plan for you:
It starts before the date.
I’d want to know what makes your eyes light up. What have you always wanted to try? Mountains or ocean? Sunrise or sunset? Fancy dinner or eating something ridiculous beside a campfire? What makes you laugh? What makes you feel safe? What makes you feel alive?
Then I’d listen.
Because my ideal first date isn’t taking you on my perfect adventure. It’s learning enough about you to create one that has pieces of both of us in it.
Maybe I pick you up with a picnic I made beforehand and tell you only enough about our destination to make you curious. There’s music playing, probably something we both love, and somewhere along the way the planned route mysteriously develops an unplanned detour because we spotted something interesting.
We explore.
Maybe we go rockhounding, find a waterfall, wander through a little town neither of us knows, walk a trail, discover some strange roadside treasure, or sit somewhere beautiful and watch the sun disappear.
And through all of it, I’m learning you.
Not interviewing you.
Learning you.
I want to hear the stories behind your answers. I want to know what makes you laugh until you snort, what God has been teaching you, what you dream about, what you’ve survived, and what kind of life would make you look back someday and say, “God gave me more than I knew to ask for.”
Somewhere beautiful, we eat the food I brought. If there’s a guitar nearby, you may discover one occupational hazard of dating a songwriter: give me enough inspiration and eventually you’re getting written into a song. 😂
By the end of the evening, I don’t need some movie-perfect romantic finale. I’d rather have that moment when we realize we stopped checking the time hours ago.
That’s my kind of first date.
Not an expensive performance.
An adventure designed around discovering you, where somewhere between the laughter, conversation, scenery, food and probably one catastrophically bad dad joke, two strangers become two people hoping there’s a second date.
But if you mean the first date YOU plan for me…
Now you’ve got an easier assignment. 😂
Take me somewhere outside. Show me something you love. Take me down a road I haven’t traveled. Let’s hunt rocks, explore a mountain, chase a sunset, find some forgotten little place, or take the wrong turn and decide it was the right one.
Bring good food, or let me make it beforehand and you choose where we eat it.
I don’t need impressive.
I want intentional.
I’d love realizing that you listened closely enough to discover something about me and thought, “Ray would love this. I want to experience it with him.”
Because ultimately, that’s what I want a relationship to become.
Two people who keep learning one another.
Two people who still create adventures after the novelty wears off.
Two people deliberately collecting memories because those memories become part of the framework holding them together when life stops looking like sunsets and starts looking like storms.
And above all, I want a relationship where it isn’t simply you and me with separate relationships with God.
I want us to have a relationship with God together.
Praying together. Serving together. Following Jesus together. Laughing together. Getting our boots dirty helping people together. Asking God where He wants this little two-person expedition to go next.
So my ideal first date?
Give me curiosity, conversation, a little adventure, something beautiful we’ve never seen together, good food, laughter, and enough time to forget what time it is.
Then if neither of us wants the adventure to end…
I’d say we planned a pretty successful first date. ❤️
