About Me: I’m Jess. I’m 36, a Communication graduate, a writer at heart, and someone who probably has more stories living in my head than I’ll ever have time to put on paper. I notice details—sometimes absurdly tiny ones—and I care about things being right, whether it’s a character’s eye color, the meaning behind a gift, or the exact words someone would use in a difficult moment.

I’m creative, sentimental, analytical, stubborn, protective, and deeply loyal. I love music, singing, drawing, painting, writing, and creating entire worlds where people feel real enough to miss when I’m not writing them. I love bright, soft, feminine things, but softness shouldn’t be mistaken for weakness.

My faith matters deeply to me. So do family, loyalty, kindness, and the way people treat those who have less power than they do. I’ve lived enough life to know that people are complicated, that love doesn’t automatically make something healthy, and that surviving something doesn’t mean it gets to define you forever.

I’m still a work in progress. I’m still dreaming ridiculously big. I still want to become a published novelist.

And somehow, after everything, I still believe there are beautiful stories left to tell.

First Date: My perfect first date wouldn’t need to be extravagant. Honestly, I think I’d be more impressed by someone who put genuine thought into it than someone who spent a ridiculous amount of money trying to impress me.

I’d want something comfortable and fairly quiet—maybe dinner somewhere cozy where we can actually hear each other talk, followed by something simple like walking around a bookstore, getting coffee, wandering somewhere pretty, or sitting somewhere talking long after we originally intended to.

Conversation would be the biggest thing for me. I want to get past the résumé questions. Tell me what makes you laugh until you can’t breathe. Tell me what you wanted to be when you were eight. What song means something to you? What book changed you? What do you believe in? What are you passionate about? I want the weird stories and the completely unnecessary tangents.

I’d want someone who is genuinely curious about me, too—not just waiting for their turn to speak.

There would probably be teasing and a lot of laughter. I’d want to feel comfortable enough to be my slightly ridiculous self without wondering whether I’m saying the “right” thing.

And I wouldn’t need some huge romantic ending. If we somehow looked up and realized several hours had disappeared because neither of us wanted the conversation to end?

That would pretty much be the perfect first date.
