I am a single parent to a wonderful and yet challenging at times teenager. I have always put Christ First, then it is my daughter. I have had challenges that I had to overcome, one in which is battling with my dystonia, a rare neurological muscle movement disorder. This affected my capability to speak and then went into other parts of my body with the muscles. I get botox injections every 3 months to help control the muscle movement in the neck and to allow me to drink water and pureed meals. I use sign language to speak as it took my vocal cords many years ago, and I am now wearing leg braces to help me with my walking and a walker for the balance. Even though I battle with the dystonia, I still am able to do many different things. I started and lead a local support group for any person affected with dystonia and their support group. I organize an annual event called Dogs4Dystonia Dog Walk in my area. This walk brings awareness of dystonia to the community and raise funds for the DMRF to help them continue to find a cure for ALL types of dystonia.
At my church, I teach American Sign Language for members in our church, in addition to any person in the community who wants to learn. This is my ministry through our church. I have been using my talents that God has given to me and in the past I interpreted at our church for worship service. I show people that even though I battle with Dystonia and it took away my vocal cords, I am not letting it win and shine through the language I now speak and am able to interact with the deaf community by using ASL.
I have 1 teenage daughter and I have raised her as a single parent since she was 9 months old. Together we have endured many challenges, but we did it together. This has made our relationship very strong. My daughter and I do many things together and I support her with her activities that she is involved in.
While raising my daughter, I went back to college and received my Bachelors Degree, then was working on my Masters when Dystonia was diagnosed. After some life challenges from the dystonia, I finished with my Masters degree. For many years, I had arabian horses that I bred, trained and showed. Due to the dystonia, I am unable to enjoy this life but I love watching them on the ground if we end up going to watch horse shows. Now we raise rabbits called Tans and go to rabbit shows to compete, along with breed them. They live in the house with us and gives us companion, along with our cat.
Should you want more, I can talk up a storm as you can see. This is only a brief synopsis of what my life has been like since the challenge that I had to overcome with God's help. If you know Sign language, that is an added bonus as I can communicate with that person better. It is OK if you are not familiar with sign language. There is the old fashion way of writing things down. I tell people that even though I have dystonia, I REFUSE to let it have me!
I am looking for someone who enjoys life, has a higher education (masters, doctorate, phd), is athletic or slimmer built, taller than me and a true gentlemen, besides accepting of my disability and puts God first. Must like children AND ANIMALS! If you know ASL, then I will be even more excited as it will be easier to communicate!
