Why so self-righteous?

I see quite often in many Christians these days the stigma that you have to fit a certain stereotype just to be considered a "good christian" or someone they would "associate" with. The Lord said that He is the one to pass judgement on humans. Not other humans. We are all sinners people, all in our own ways.



Even if you are saved, you still fight the daily battle of temptation and sin. Put yourself in another man's shoes. Empathy. Compassion.



There is a book in the Bible (Old Testament) called Nahum. I am sure most of you have heard of it. Nahum was a prophet and historian. Anyways, "Nahum" is also the Hebrew word for "comforter".



I ask you fellow Christians and human beings to be careful when passing judgement on others. Honestly, it is a big reason a lot of people avoid the church. Single parents, people with tattoos, piercings, are commonly either shunned or ignored when visiting a church. And they are people too. They are people hungry for the word of Our Lord Jesus Christ and Fellowship with His followers.



Remember, Jesus spent much of his time amongst the drunks prostitutes and the otherwise unsavory charachters of that time. They needed the Word people! They needed to be brought to the flock. THEY were the missing sheep of the herd and so let the Lord use you to be the shepard's hand and reach out to these people. The Great Comission is not limited only to those with neckties and a white fence and a subservient wife. And after bringing someone to God, do not just look away thinking the battle is won and they are saved.... They are people. God' s people. Who deserve equal treatment for we are all equally sinners.



And if a young Jewish Carpenter had not died for our sins, we would all be condemned equally as sinners. Praise Jesus Christ, Son of God, and may this message reach all who read it with love and the desire to educate and help people along their walk with Christ.

I agree. I'm definitely trying to be more open-minded about people and not judge. It does no good and usually you find out that you were dead wrong anyways. It's good to be open-minded.

Romans 10 would a great place to begin a discussion on this topic. Paul rightly tells us that the basis of man-made religion is the need to assert one's personal righteousness. He then explains that outside of what Jesus did for us, there is absolutely nothing righteous that any of us have done. Before salvation, the Bible says we were children of wrath.



However, in a need to appear spiritual, many alleged Christians have created a new movement to attack judgementalism. To this new doctrine, anything that affirms the wickedness of sin must be hatred. For those who preach this, they cite the classic strawmen tactic of showing us people with whom most of us would not readily invite into our homes to try to disgrace us unChristlike.



To this, Paul tells us that the lost already stand condemned and not to judge them; however in 1 Corinthians 5, Paul tells us quite explicitly to give over sinful Christians to Satan for the destruction of their flesh (which isn't a call for persecution but for alienation). We're not to do this unless we've been obedient to Matthew 18 in matters of discipline. If such a one repents, their is no sin too great that our Lord cannot forgive or which we are not commanded to remit.



So, while we should all be vigilant not by hypocrites who judge the world, we should be diligent to shown approved in our discernment and call to discipline of the saints in Christ. After all, we are ambassadors of Christ Jesus and His reconciliation.
