Romans Chapter 3...

But now this righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to ALL(everyone) and on ALL(everyone) who believes.

For there is no difference, for ALL (everyone) have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a PROPITIATION by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

What is this word PROPITIATION all about?

Propitiation means that Christ's death on the cross has satisfied the payment for our sins and reconciles us to our Father God in heaven so that we do not have to suffer His wrath.

My NIV uses the phrase "sacrifice of atonement" in place of "propitiation" there.

It also has a root in the word perpetual, which means continuous, forever. I always think of that when I read those passages, it is comforting.

Jesus Christ, whom God has set forth to be a PROPITIATION by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His (God's) righteousness. What does this part all mean?

Propitiation is not a common word today is it? It is not very common in the Bible either, occurring only THREE times in the King James. In addition the Greek words that are the source of the idea of Propitiation are found only FOUR TIMES in the New Testament.

One time it is translated "Mercy Seat" (Hebrews 9:5).

The idea is founded first of all on an understanding of the WRATH of God against Sin. God hates sin. Sin is repulsive to God.

Apart from Jesus Christ we are all sinful, and God hates the sin in us. Sin in us is repulsive to God. That is the bad news.

But then the GOOD News:

But God commended His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

The death of Christ then appeases, or calms down the wrath of God that was against us. The Blood of Jesus we are told is a propitiation for our sins. That is to say the Blood of Jesus cancels our sins, and removes the repulsiveness that was in us.

PROPITIATION means a "calming down of anger, smoothing legitimate ire, appeasing of legal and judicial wrath."

It is not a bribe, as if it were some under the table illegal shenanigans or an unjust "plea bargain." It is not getting out of our death sentence by some tricky loophole or legal sidestep. It is always the legitimate and legal satisfaction of judicial wrath. So, in order to rightly appreciate "propitiation" you must first have a grasp and comprehension of Divine Wrath and of Human Guilt.

WE ARE GUILTY, but Jesus as eternal God, bore the penalty of our guilt in His physical death on the Cross.

Yes, Flood, this is what I was seeking... thanks. And no, no one talks about the most important word in the Bible, which the word its slef is not one that can be easily found, but the work or action of this word is found throughout the Bible. In fact, had it not been for PROITIATION we would not have the Bible.

PROPITIATION (SACRIFICE) is the sole act of God, motiviated by His divine love to saved His creation from their sins through the blood of His Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ. This was God's way of settling and completely satisfying a sacrifice for EVERY HUMAN SINS of the past, presnet and future of those who were born and are to be born in the future. And this great sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the croos and His suffering death is what brought and will bring us back into right standing with and before God.

The blood of Jesus Christ was and IS the ONLY sacrifice (ROPITIATION) between God and man for the sins of the WHOLE WORLD.

AND the benfits and blessings of this divine sacrifice was NOT done just for some, and not for others Jesus' sacrifical death on the cross is for,and available for EVERYONE, THE WHOSOEVERS WILL BY FAITH accpet this sacrifice God has established for the remission of man's sins. A total act of God and his grace and mercy upon a lost people.

God had mercy on us , and took our sins to His mercy seat, andi decided to offer us forgivennes, if we repent of our sins and receive His Son. God's love for us when He could have destroyed us all, was shown through Christ's suffering death which declared God's own righteousness of being a just God to show His mercy and make such a sacrifice of His Son as justify us with His righteousness, because of His Son.

Therefore, because of the PROPITIATION (SACRIFICE) on the cross NO ONE IS WITHOUT EXCUSE of salvation, and since God sent His SON to die for the world, the WHOSOEVERS who believe in Jesus Christ.
