Smart, outgoing, sarcastic, funny, opinionated, honest, trustworthy, confident, mischievous, challenging, quirky, Marmite, optimistic, quick-witted, idiosyncratic - these are some of the adjectives (and one trademarked name!) my friends would use to describe me. I'd like to add self-aware to that - I am not blind to my faults and weaknesses or my strengths and positives, often described as a "typical Leo" by those who subscribe to astronomy. Or if you're really into it, a "higher Leo," as I do actively try to compensate for my myriad faults!
I am a big chap, as you can see from my photos, but am trying to do something about that currently and become more active - not a new years' resolution but a full-on lifestyle change. I have a fairly relaxed attitude to life and have experienced enough to become a nicely rounded person (not just physically, either!). I laugh at most things, finding the potential for humour in everything from the mundane to the unusual and I go shooting off at tangents with alarming regularity. I do tend to gravitate more towards the different and the unusual, preferring quirky people to those who don't really have much to offer or keep me interested. I love adventure and new experiences, expanding my life experiences and enjoying life. I'm more of an explorer than a beach-bum when on holiday. As an unrelated aside, I also absolutely adore the snow and animals tend to like me. If there's ever fancy dress or karaoke, I'm there!!!!!
One could say I'm a bit of a nerd, throwing in quotes from all sorts of sources in everyday conversation or making random references. I'm blessed with hugely eclectic tastes in music, appreciating everything from classical music to dance, and film where I've yet to find a genre I actively avoid or dislike. I also enjoy intelligent conversation and try to oblige - being happy to discuss and debate things from the sublime to the ridiculous; socio-political to philosophical; religious to the secular; absolute nonsense to the serious.
I respect considered opinions and as a result do have a problem with bigots and bullies. I'm not judgemental - my religion is important to me and I'm best described as a liberal Catholic (I am actively involved in my local parish) but don't enforce my views on anybody. One thing that is both a huge positive and a huge negative is that I'm not like most people - I am a very unique proposition and that can confuse things a little. I dislike excessive text speak and the word "lush" being used incorrectly. Grrr. My rants are also the stuff of legend.
In terms of what I'm seeking, I'll be honest. In the main, I'm after friendship (online or in person) as my heart appears to be somewhat in a state of flux presently. Nothing legacy, I've dealt with pretty much all of my emotional issues, made peace and become both stronger and better for it. I need somebody who can make me laugh, who's confident and comfortable in their own skin, who can handle me as I can be stubborn and have a big personality. They have to be honest and loyal I don't play games and expect the same courtesy back, speaking as I find even if that causes offence. I also have a strange approach to attraction insofar as I don't tend to find somebody attractive until I actually get to know more about them as a person. Yes, somebody can be sexy, look good, be classically beautiful or have a great figure but that's not the same as being attractive, given the number of those "attractive" people who are actually very self-serving and ugly people. Admittedly, a mate of mine would dismiss that as being a typical "fat, ugly bloke thing to say" but he's just jealous of my superior intellect! And that's not to say that physical chemistry isn't important, just that emotional and mental chemistry are arguably moreso.
In terms of dating, if that's what you're looking for, I do not want to date somebody with children. Whilst I am open to having children with a loved one in the future (preferably after marriage!), I'd like that to be a shared first experience with that special someone.
This hasn't really sold me. I've missed out my huge catalogue of facial expressions and my ability to gesticulate and make stupid voices (not accents, can't do those, except my native-ish Brummy tongue), none of which effectively comes across via the medium of text. If you'd like to know me better, feel free to ask me anything. I'm pretty much an open book. Sometimes to my detriment!
Either way, thanks for getting to the end without falling asleep. I wish you good luck in finding whatever you're looking for. Everybody deserves to be content (not happy - happiness is often fleeting whereas contentment lasts!), even if most people aren't really sure how to get there.
Jonny.
