About Me
A LITTLE ABOUT ME:

I was raised in a quiet, God-fearing household with several younger siblings outside Charlotte, NC. Our home life was characterized by a love of learning, good conversations, and simple, wholesome pastimes like reading, playing board games, and playing outdoors, often in a large tract of wooded land behind our house. We had no television and minimal technology in our home, and for that I'm grateful because I think that that led my siblings and me into other pastimes that were no less enjoyable and ultimately more profitable.

I’m aiming to be every day a better and closer follower of Jesus Christ. It doesn’t make sense to follow Christ as merely one of several pursuits; the gospel message doesn’t give an option for part-time or mediocre Christians. So, I’m making it my life project to dedicate myself ever more fully to loving and serving God. I strive to seek the Truth, as revealed in the Bible, and to make that my rule of life and doctrine. If my beliefs do not align with Scripture, I want to be corrected.

I make a point to live frugally. While I value some things relatively highly (e.g. tools, books, giving to the church), I generally buy inexpensive food, almost never eat out, and shop at Goodwill when I need clothes, shoes, furniture, or housewares. I don't see myself traveling much besides to visit family or perhaps for missions work. Perhaps more importantly than the financial aspect, though, I also see great value in a simple, quiet lifestyle because I think it is more conducive to strong relationships with family and others and that it's ultimately more conducive to godliness.

My interests are fairly broad (see favorite activities listed below), touching on just about all the major academic disciplines. As for personality, I tend toward a "type-A" personality; I value orderliness and cleanliness—enough so that I rather enjoy washing dishes and cleaning things. I think I’m more task-oriented than people-oriented, but I try not to let tasks and material things get in the way of relationships. I'm not easily offended and I think it's safe to say I'm generally a good listener. For those of you who caught the reference: no, I'm not a Jesuit (or Catholic), but I don't mind appropriating their motto!

QUALITIES I’M SEEKING IN A WIFE:

I am ultimately seeking a helpmeet, a wife. Toward that end, more immediately I am seeking what you might call a “courtship”—a deliberate relationship focused on getting to know each other with an eye toward possible marriage. I do not see a good place for romance in this sort of relationship, as I believe that romance tends to impair good judgement, which is never more important than before binding oneself in the life-long marriage covenant. I think it makes sense to address critical matters, such as matters of biblical doctrine, relatively early in a relationship. I think families should be involved in the relationship as much as is practicable from an early stage.

Here are the top three qualities I'm seeking in a wife:
1. Commitment to the Lord: In short, I am seeking a woman who strives to bring every interest, hope, and dream under Jesus' Lordship, and to make "Not my will, but Thine be done" the motto of her life.
2. Desire to raise a family: I am seeking a woman who desires to raise children and sees that as a noble and full-time calling. I would like a wife who is open to homeschooling, should God indeed bless us with children. (Allow me to note that, while indeed a full-time labor of love, homeschooling—even with a large family—needn't be nearly so scary as it usually is to people who are unfamiliar with it.)
3. Desire for a simple and frugal lifestyle: I am seeking a woman who aspires as I do to a much simpler and more technology-lean lifestyle than is common in the U.S. today. She should be domestically inclined, seeing the home as a vital realm of ministry to our own immediate family, the church, and many others. Personally I find use of cosmetics distasteful. I hope to find a wife who will let her hair turn grey with me (well, let her hair turn grey as mine falls out :-)).

I hope to find a wife who is eager as I am to serve others in need. I would also like to find someone who is open to the prospect of long-term missions work, possibly in a 3rd-world country. Needless to say, that would not be an especially comfortable lifestyle, but I am aiming to go wherever I can best serve God.

FAVORITE LEISURE ACTIVITIES:

--Good conversations
--Anything involving tools—home improvement & repair projects, automotive work, etc.
--Reading
--Board games (Settlers of Catan and similar games are my favorite)
--Working on a good tough Math problem now and then
--Singing hymns
--Outdoor recreation—bicycling, hiking/backpacking

OCCUPATION:

I am currently enrolled in a two-year Bible/preaching program here in Denver, CO. I do not necessarily have in mind to work full-time in ministry or preaching, but I want to be equipped to preach or teach as needed, to provide my children with a solid education in the Word, and generally to serve God as well as I can wherever and however that may be.

Lord willing I will graduate from Bible school in May of 2022. I am interested in foreign mission work, but at least for a time I anticipate likely working a secular career here in the U.S. and striving to teach and minister as much as possible in the local church. As to what that career might be, I have a number of interests, but my main goal is to find a career in which I can be well-pleasing to God and support a wife and children so that my wife can devote herself full-time to home-making and child-rearing—a full-time job if there ever was one. Supporting a family properly, as I see it, requires not only financial provision, but also a great deal of time and energy dedicated to helping run the household, raising children, and just spending quality time together, so that’s an important factor to me when considering career possibilities.

I taught middle school Math for two years before coming to Bible school, and I would consider going back to teaching. I have a strong aptitude for and interest in mechanical skills and I'm interested in a skilled trade such as electrical work. In college I volunteered and worked as an EMT (all 911 response in a small town/rural setting) and I'm somewhat interested in getting back into Fire/EMS work, but that's probably a pipe dream, as jobs in that field are not usually as good for a family.

EDUCATION:

I was homeschooled K-12, participating in a Classical Conversations community from 4th-12th grade, and my entire schooling experience was a tremendous blessing.

After graduating from high school I graduated with a bachelor’s degree from a small liberal arts college in rural Virginia. Overall that was also a wonderful experience. I studied mostly sciences but also enjoyed a smattering of courses in Western Culture, classical Greek, Music Theory, Economics, Computer Science, and others. I’ve generally enjoyed school a great deal, but I don’t really see myself pursuing any more formal education after Bible school.
First Date
Not being much of a romantic, I don’t have much of a concept of “the perfect setting.” It should go without saying that some settings are more conducive to the aims of courtship than others. I don’t see much value in watching a movie together. Conversation over lunch or dinner would probably be my default, especially early on. I also see a lot of value in getting to know each other through shared hands-on experiences—some sort of service project, fixing a meal together, etc.
