- I spent the first 19 years of my life in Altona. I graduated from Garrett High School in 1971. I had to leave for education and career. I have chosen to return to my place of birth to live the last chapter of my life. My claim to fame is I was born in a haystack on my Grandparents farm south of Auburn. If someone asks me if I was "Born IN A Barn" I can honestly say I was. Looking back on my youth, Altona and Garrett was a great place to grow up. A railroad town in the best.
