Do opposites really attract?

I find that the best couples are the ones where there personality and charcter are opposite.

Example... one spouse is quiet and reserved..(usually the husband) and the other spouse is out going and personalible (usually the wife.)

I think God matches our strengths and weakneses with our spouses opposite strengths and weakneses so couples fit perfectly together making a stronger bond. Where one spouse is weak in one area the other spouse is stronger.

Any opinons?

Looking to fill a void in your own strengths and weaknesses is a natural thing to do; especially when it comes to your mate for life. When two become Oneit makes sense to be attracted to someone that has a quality or qualities that you are diminished in or lack completely.

On the other handthere is also the phenomena of Curiosity. Some of us tend to be attracted to that which we know to be bad for us, simply because of curiosity. The danger inherent can be intoxicating and stimulating. If we are quiet and reservedwe are curious as to what it might be like to be loud and reckless. The bad boy that mom warned us about has an allure simply because he is an unknown that we cannot control. Like a wild animal which we are privy to its day to day workings. Why watch it on TV when we can live it?

Yespeople do look for Complements and this is a good and natural thing. Noopposite characters are not a good thing (in general) and usually lead to Heartache.

Beauty and The Beastis a different story.

Great question...

My late husband of 27 years and I were in many ways opposites but kind of like the 'Jack-sprat' thing learned to complement each other. We were alike in some core areas including the desire to weather the storms together and basic sense of humor.

Sometimes too much alike means also the things we don't like in ourselves (like our kids sometimes manifest) and that can be very annoying as well.

God made us so amazingly complex (or did it just happen with the big bang )

I think it's a little like making music or cooking where the ingredients need to compliment each other.
