Second chances

I was reading today about God's nudges, to obey them, and how when we don't obey his leading we have but to ask for forgiveness from Him and be ready for those second chances He offers.

I feel like I once had a nudge from God to intervene in a fight which started in a supermarket I was shopping in, while overseas. It was a family affair to be sure, with the grandfather hating on an obnoxiously behaved grandson, a mother with her arm in a cast, and a father who looked like he had a string for a backbone. The grandfather started pushing around the grandson and hitting him, the mother with what seemed to be a broken arm was trying to protect her son using her body as a shield and the father was sheepishly standing to the side threatening to call the police.

I stood there, sort of throwing up in my mouth, and had this extreme urge to get in there physically and help somehow. The grandfather looked like a force to be reckoned with, I've never seen someone so big looking so angry in my life.

The supermarket staff came along, and no one quite knew what to do. Finally the situation defused itself, traumatically. And I was left feeling like an utter coward, and like I failed the Lord's nudge to intercede. I was praying the entire time the situation unfolded. But it seemed like the more I prayed the harder the urge hit me to get involved physically.

I'm reminded of that verse "faith without works is dead". (James 2:26)

I'm still not quite sure if God wanted me to physically go in there and try to break up the fight. But somewhere deep down in me I feel like I failed to act on a nudge the Lord gave me. Does anyone have advice related to second chances, and how to take your own failures on the chin and keep trying to follow the Lord? What are your thoughts on "risky nudges"?

Maybe God didn't want you to intervene physically, but perhaps you could have gotten someone else to help?

Also, I think that it's bad to live in the past, it's done. Keep your head up and worry about today and tomorrow, not about yesterday

"Our yesterdays present irreparable things to us; it is true that we have lost opportunities which will never return, but God can transform this destructive anxiety into a constructive thoughtfulness for the future. Let the past sleep, but let it sleep on the bosom of Christ. Leave the Irreparable Past in His hands, and step out into the Irresistible Future with Him." - Oswald Chambers

I will say this. I don't believe what you did was sinful. I believe it's more likely that you have a heart for God and desired to stop what you believed to be evil. I don't necessarily believe that was God nudging you to step in physically.

Sally,

First of all I do agree with the advice the guys gave you. I really don't feel that the Lord would want you to step into a fight, to try to stop it. You could have gotten hurt yourself. I think you did the right thing by praying for God's help. And I feel that God did take care of the problem. God bless you.. Kay:glow:

Aww, thanks lpm10. Your advice is really good.

HoldingOutHope, thank you for the audio. Im listening to the audio now, and love the part where it says, Christianity is not a self-help religion, but it is a religion that acknowledges that God has pursued us in love in order to love us and save us.

Flowers1951, thanks so much. Youre such a sweetheart, Kay.

The only other person I asked their opinion on regarding this situation said that broken bones are better, in the long run than broken memories, that stay with us forever. You have a broken bone, and it heals, but regrets are always with you. Lol, not very encouraging, but also true. One thing though is that, like the audio said, not taking Jesus forgiveness is sort of dismissing the purpose of His sacrifice and atonement.

Thanks for helping me look at it in a newfound light. You guys are sweet.

I don't believe in second chance. I only believe in Science. Why you always got to be judging me? quit trying to baptize me.
