I am not a girl, but that subject is important to us Men too.

What I find is that Proverbs 31:1 declares that the text is from King Lemuel's mother, so she would be the proverb Woman's mother in law, and I say she was demanding way far too much from a daughter in law.

As such you Ladies need to be very skeptical concerning Proverbs 31 and the so called "virtuous woman" because Jesus Christ never ever put such burdens onto Women and onto wives as here is done by King Lemuel's mother.

I say she would have been the mother in law from hell for whoever married her son, because Proverbs 31 is expecting too much.

That is just my own perspective based on my own religious belief, and I am only suggesting that the text is there are for an example and not as a commandment.

10Who can find a virtuous woman? ( virtous, a great quality worthy of being)

for her price is far above rubies. 11The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her,( A trust worthy woman, another great quality worthy of being)

so that he shall have no need of spoil.

12She will do him good( she does him good, yet another)

and not evil all the days of her life. 13She seeketh wool, and flax,

and worketh willingly with her hands.( Not lazzy)

14She is like the merchants ships; she bringeth her food from afar. 15She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

16She considereth a field, and buyeth it:( she is business minded)

with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. 17She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. 18She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. 19She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

20She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. ( A generous woman)

21She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. 22She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. 23Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. 24She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. 25Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. 26She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. 27She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. 28Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. 29Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. 30Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. 31Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

I could continue but all great qualities and what our country needs more of not less.

Your probally closer to being this woman already but to modest to see.

I'd like to jump in here if I may and draw attention to a point that was shown to me when I was trying to be superwoman and beating myself up because I was failing to achieve all this on my own...

Note in verse 15 "maidservants"... the Proverbs 31 woman had help she didn't do all of this all by herself.

There will probably be some who'll jump in and try to say I'm talking rubbish and try to belittle what I've said here, but it is worth noting and remembering before we try and place a yoke on ourselves or each other that is impossible to achieve without household assistance.

God bless all

Well doesn't she still do what it says she does? That verse talks about what she gave to maidservants, not the burden they took off of her. Am I mistaken?

The point I'm making is SHE HAD MAIDSERVANTS... who would have helped her. I think the emphasis should be on how she RAN the household and the most important, her overall attitude of serving, grace and obvious humility.

Anyway, I've made my point and am going to leave it there it's for others to read, pray and discern for themselves.

God bless all

I had a pastor one time who spoke on this passage for Mother's Day. He talked about all the responsibilities of the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31 and how difficult that could be. Then he pointed out that before any man condemns his wife for not being able to live up to all these things, he should take a look at his own life to see if he were living up to being a Proverbs 1-30 man. It kind of puts that one chapter into a different perspective.

Cakechic: AMEN!

There is so much emphasis on the Proverbs 31 woman.. however, it would also be wise for the men who seek a woman like this to be sure they are worthy of her and will honour, cherish and love her as they should.

Yes that is your point, but why add extra points? The verses still explain what the wife did, not the maidservants. I am in no way trying to place a burden on women, but I do want to be accurate to the scriptures and somehow explaining away the work she put in because she had maidservants doesn't do the Proverbs 31 any justice.
