at what age are men mature enough to make a commitment

This question is for my daughter. She is 21 and just ended a three year relationship. She is now raising a son as a single parent. She is a beautiful young woman and truly wants to live her life for the Lord. But, she does not want to raise him alone. Her ex is 24 and has no desire to settle into family life. He says he is too young to settle down and just wants to have fun. At this point, my daughter won't consider going out with anyone who isn't at least in their late 20's. I don't blame her. But, I would like to know everone's opinion here. At what age are men mature enough to make a commitment?

In most cases young men who do not go to church I would say are not mature. This is me speaking from when I was not saved.

if the young man is saved and into the word he is ok.Dennis

thanks. That was kind of my point. She is thinking that if she dates someone older, they will be more mature. But, I am trying to help her to understand that chronological age does not equal maturity. He's gotta love the Lord. That's the most important thing. I'm sure you all agree, yes?

Yes, I agree. Age has nothing to do with maturity. I have encountered many men that were emotionally immature but were also quite a bit older than me. On the flip side, there are men younger than me that are very mature. I think to try to generalize people would be a mistake. As you said, it's all about their walk.

With love,

T

Proverbs,

I'm 25 years old and I feel that I have been ready to "settle" down for a couple years. But like some others on here have pointed out, I'm a man of God. Most of my sisters were married by the time they were 21-23 and the guys they married were either their age or even younger and their relationships are still going strong 5+ years into their marriage. Tell your daughter to keep looking and not to rule out younger guys because of something ONE guy did. We aren't all CRAZY!!! Haha!! Later!~

I agree with others -- it depends on the man. An older man does not guarantee more maturity.

She has to take the time to get to know the man. Ask other people to meet him and listen to what they say. Spend time with him, over time, and his maturity and true character will come out, and she will know.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I agree. Age does not make the man, it's his relationship with Christ. I'll have to get my daughter to read this forum and hopefully she'll come around. There might be a genuinely sweet guy out there closer to her age, who will love her the way she deserves. She's just gotta give it to Christ and let Him lead the way.

I agree that you cant put an "age" on being mature. I am 2 yrs out of an almost 25 yr marriage and he still is not ready to settle down. We just have had our first grandchild and he is still putting "himself" first instead of family. Each person, male or female, needs to be considered individually. Tell your daughter to pray, give it to God, and let Him send someone her way. He will take care of her and the child ....if....she will let Him. I wish her the best....and time to heal.
