Regeneration is a sovereign work of God (Jn. 1:12-13; 3:3-8; Jas. 1:18; 1 Pet. 1:3) a radical work or total transformation (Ezek. 36:26-27; 1 Jn. 3:9) not just an addition...The SOURCE of regeneration is Christ (1 Pet 1:3; Eph 1:3, 2:4, 4:24; 2 Cor 5:17) The AGENT of regeneration is the Holy Spirit (Jn. 3:3-8; Titus 3:5) The INSTRUMENT of regeneration is the Word of God (Jas. 1:18; 1 Pet. 1:23, 25) which precedes and causes faith (Jn 6:63-65, 1 jn 5:1, Eph. 2:5; Col. 2:13)
"God effects a change which is radical and all-pervasive, a change which cannot be explained in terms of any combination, permutation or accumulation of human resources, a change which is nothing less than a new creation by Him who calls the things that be not as though they were, who spoke and it was done, whocommanded and it stood fast. This, in a word, is regeneration." - John Murray
Regeneration is the communication of the new heart to sinners by the operation of the Holy Spirit through the Word...a Christ-generated act of instantaneously communicating spiritual life to a man convicted of sin.
Regeneration is expressly denied to be of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man (John 1:13), and is ascribed to God himself. Not all men have faith in Christ; and those who do have it, have it not of themselves; it is the gift of God, worked out through the Redemption which is in Christ through the mighty operation of his Spirit, which is the fruit and effect of His invincible grace. This is because the natural man is wholly captive under the power and dominion of sin, and a slave unto it, and has neither a power nor will to believe the gospel of Jesus Christ apart from the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit.
Synergists teach that 'salvation depends on human will', but the Bible teaches that 'it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy." (Rom 9:16)
"And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live...Then you shall know that I am the LORD; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the LORD." - Ezekiel 37:14
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive [quickened us] with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions it is by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:4-5
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is of no avail. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe. (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.) And he said, This is why I told you that no one can come to me [i.e. believe in me] unless it is granted him by the Father.
John 6:63-65
You have been born anew, not of perishable seed but but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God..."
1 Peter 1:23-25
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God.
1 John 5:1
Faith in the living God and his Son Jesus Christ is always the result of the new birth, and can never exist except in the regenerate. Whoever has faith is a saved man.
Charles Spurgeon from the sermon Faith and Regeneration
If salvation is the implantation of a new, infinite life in the soul, it must be a work of God. Self-caused effects can never rise above the character or qualities of their cause. "Flesh gives birth to flesh but the Spirit gives birth to Spirit," Jesus told Nicodemus. This saving grace cannot be caused by the creature, it can only come from God.
John Hannah from To God be the Glory (pg. 34-5)
The inward offer is a kind of spiritual enlightenment, whereby the promises are presented to the hearts of men, as it were, by an inward word.

Hey James:
You are beating a dead horse with those which believe that, they have 'repented' of their sins before trusting Yeshua to save them from the wrath of YHWH against their sins.
These people cannot understand that repentance of sin follows trusting Yeshua to save them, never before....
These people fail to understand that they need to REPENT of their UNBELIEF,then BELIEVE the GOSPEL..
Mar 1:14 And after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom of God,
Mar 1:15 and saying, The time has been fulfilled, and the kingdom of God draws near. Repent and believe in the gospel.
So sad to see people with their understanding being blinded by self righteousness.

John 1:13 ~ Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
*** Being born of the Spirit of GODthats the Holy Spiritand it comes from GOD...

*** Blinded by SELF righteousness ??? How aboutGlorifing God/Jesus Righteousness by Accepting His WORD as Truth instead of adding to itsee below for clarification on this
Matthew 3:2 ~ And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
*** I read, understand, accept this scripture to say [ REPENT ] for the kingdom of heaven is at handthats what it says
Matthew 4:17~ From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, [ Repent ]: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
*** Same here
Mark 1:15~ And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: [[[ repent ye, and believe the gospel. ]]]
*** The WORD says [ REPENT ] first and Believe the Gospel secondIt does not say Repent of [[[ Unbelief ]]]you added that word Georgeand that word is Not in the this Scripturethe Gospel to be Believed on is the Kingdom of GOD and Christ Jesus came to Save Sinners. So What Gospel are you Preaching ???.Dont Repent Just Trust or RepentThe Kingdom of God/Heaven is at hand and Just Believe on Him~Jesus that came into the world to Save Sinners ???
Mark 6:12~ And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none orther name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be Saved. Acts. 4:12

Interesting article and responses.
I'm not here to take any sides on this but I am going to play the "devils advocate," so to speak, and make a few points in order for this discussion to really take fruit for the silent reader because it is a good discussion (as long as there is equal respect on all sides).
So, with that in mind, I will add this and then ask my questions, if any.
The book of Matthew was addressed to the Jews. We know this because there are a lot of Jewish undertones within the whole context of the gospel. Yes, it is also for us believers now, but in essence, the gospel of Luke was penned for the Gentiles in order for them to know what Christ came for.
Mark, the gospel, was also "dictated to Mark by Peter" as some scholars suggest, so that too, could also be directed towards the Jews. Plus we see that Peter was to attend to the Jewish believers and Paul was to attend with the Gentiles. That is why Luke (who traveled with Paul)
Now, with the Acts 2:38 verse we could also conclude that Peter was speaking to people who came to participate in the Jewish feasts at that time which would make them "believers" in the God of the Jews. So, just like Jesus went to His people, the Jews, first (the Gentiles who believed on Him came to Him. We also see them come to Him with just belief in Him from what we read in the gospel accounts and in the book of Acts.) So that repentance would also apply to the Jews and Prostytes (sp) there too.
Now, with that being said, can we try to research what the word "repent" means in light of the Scriptural context in order to get a proper discussion going?
And what of the verse in Hebrews 11:6 where it says that one must come to him in "belief" in order to have faith because it is impossible without belief. Correct?
Anyways.
What does anyone think about this?
Any thoughts?
Thanks. And sorry if this is completely off topic, by the way. :peace:
