PREACH THE GOSPEL NOT DOCTRINE! Wait a minute, what?
Posted : 2 Aug, 2013 12:01 AM

It was claimed in another post by a fellow CDFF member:

"I never see Reformers here PREACH the Gospel...only Preach doctrine!!!!."

Huh? On it's surface, this is a rather puzzling claim. Is it not? How does this member go about making this unnatural distinction between "the Gospel" and "doctrine" in the first place? It seems that more than a little bit of confusion exists in this member's mind.

What is doctrine?

Doctrine (from Latin: doctrina) is a codification of beliefs or a body of teachings or instructions, taught principles or positions, as the body of teachings in a branch of knowledge or belief system.

Ah, so we see that doctrine is a set of beliefs or teachings.

Then, what is the gospel if not a distinctive doctrine? And what would distinguish a "false gospel" unless it was in the distinctive of the doctrine?

Did Jesus preach doctrine? He said he did.

John 7

15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

Are repentance, remission of sins, Christ's death, burial, and resurrection the doctrine of the Christian faith? They most certainly are. Is this not also the Gospel of the Christian faith? It most certainly is.

Luke 24

47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem

1 Cor. 15

1Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

What are we warned to beware of? "Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees" Matt 16:6 What is this leaven? Ah yeah, it's doctrine. "Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the DOCTRINE of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees" Matt. 16:12

Let's look at an example of a FALSE gospel. Acts 23:8 "For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both." Why could this be considered a false gospel? Because the Sadducees taught that there was no resurrection. The problem was with their doctrine.

Now, let's examine this members claim again:

"I never see Reformers here PREACH the Gospel...only Preach doctrine!!!!."

Does this actually have any merit at all? Even a cursory examination of the forums, shows a LARGE number of posts from the "Reformers" that are PREACHING doctrine. In fact, the "Reformers" here are the only ones that are PREACHING the "doctrines of grace" --- which certainly make up the framework for and the heart of the Biblical Gospel.

Perhaps this member takes pleasure in being an accuser of the Reformed brethren or perhaps not..........let the readers decide.

Jesus preached the gospel, His death, burial, and resurrection. He did NOT preach Calvinism.

Jesus taught repentance and belief in Him for salvation.

See teach, you preach a false gospel as the bible warns about. Easy beliefism is heresy. YOU have been deceived by the doctrines of the false teachers. May God of truth have mercy on you, and open your eyes to his truth.

This is Calvinism, the gospel of God's holy infallible word.

"18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him."

Here is a fine distinction between the "Free Willer" (who speaks of himself and who seeks his own glory) and the Calvinist ( who seeks God's glory). JESUS PREACHED THAT!

All the glory is God's...there's no doubt about that...but what do you glory in?

I glory in the Word of God, not the words of man...and Calvin and others are words of man....and their attempt to take some words from the Bible.

I've read and been taught the words of man, I choose to read God's Word, study those Words, and apply those words.

The Bible says to study and discern, not blindly follow. And I will not praise some fallen man for his perceived special interpretation. Try all things by the Word of God.

Ps 115:3 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

Go and PREACH that. God is sovereign - He does whatever HE wills.

Dan 4: 35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

Jesus preached it, Paul preached it, Calvin preached it, and I preach it too.

We can't stay His hand, but He is not willing that any should perish, but many will because of their disbelief.

Many make Him angry because of their disbelief, grumblings, complainings, etc. we're not doing His will when we do not do His will...and all Chrisitans do things He does not want them to do. There would be no need for Christ's death on the cross if every did His will...none would sin.

"We can't stay His hand, but He is not willing that any should perish, but many will because of their disbelief. "

Will you please stop the spread of heresy today. Please read the context of this verse you love to quote so often.

Peter is talking to those God has called. God is not slack concerning those whom he has CHOSEN. This is God's promise to God's elect, NOT the entire human race. Read 2 Peter 1:4 it is very clear who Peter is writing to.

You need to submit yourself to God and his holy infallible word not the false teachers you have been following thus far. They are leading you down a path of destruction. May God soften your heart to his truth this day.

There is no Gospel to Reformation theology, you can not teach hatred and unbelief and call it Love and faith.
