ELLA SAYS: Pj, I think you have that backwards. The passages says NOW(meaning right this very moment) FAITH is the SUBSTANCE( which means ingredient) of things HOPED FOR. Which means Faith is the indgredient: the action, our prayers, our hearing the Word of God, our trust in God, our work that we put into bringing about our dreams and visions. our preparation.
Ingredients means the element, or component, or thing that brings about our hope. Just as flour is the main ingredient that goes into the mix to make a cake, without flour there is no HOPE for a cake. Without fiaht there is no hope of accomplishing anything or receiving anything from God. This is why God says wihtout faith IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE GOD!
You cannot have hope without faith, just as you cannot have fiath without hope, because faith our belief, whcih gives us hope. Faith come first, before hope.

If you can't properly explain scriptures and phrases that YOU use, then you have need to think about keeping silent trying to judge and condemn somebody in matters you can't effectively explain, so that others may know what you mean by what you quote from God's word, don't you think? Of course, that is, if you are doing as you say preaching God's word, or just quoting scriptures.
Should not Jesus and Paul and the other apostles be your examples as to how you should teach God's word? They were able to explain eveything they said about God, so why is it that you have no spiritual insight or clue as to what the very scriptures you quote are saying?

This topic is about fulfilling and accomplishing ones visions, dreams and hopes and desires and having the faith to step out and seek God in prayer asking for His assistance to bring them to pass, by standing on the promises of God.
So if you qould like to quote scriptures, why not quote all the scriptures God's has in promises to those who step out in faith and trust He has made.

ok, look PJ... if you decide to bake a cake, you cannot do so without flour, this is the main ingredient to baking a cake... the milk, eggs, sugar, baking power, butter, etc are the other ingredients that go into forming the cake to make it sound and stable.
But if you don't have the flour, no matter how you mixed the other ingredients together there is no cake. The end results of all these ingredients is the batter, and when put into the oven, and time comes to pass after baking time is over... you have a cake.
But until such time, your wait with great expectations for it to cook, you have HOPE that it will come out just like the recipe said it would come out, and while you are waiting with expectations, you have also prepared a cooling rack and plate for it to sit on, and when you take it out the oven, you see what you had HOPED a for, and expect to see..WOW a cake!:eat:...
Same as faith. The scriptures says Faith is the SUBSTANCE
which means faith (action) is the flour, it is the main ingredient to accomplishing whatever it is you are seeking of God. And no matter how much you pray and ask of God, if you DO NOT faith to believe and have not put it into action that faith by seeking God, in prayer, and you do not have hope or expect anything, you will not receive the answer to you prayer request.
All the other things you do to bring your dreams or vision, or make things happen are the other ingredients, just like the milk, eggs, etc that goes into a cake.
Example: If you have a dream or vision to start a business, if you don't have faith to believe that you will start this business, and if you have not done any preparations toward bringing this dream r vision to pass you will not be starting a business.
But if you have done everything necessary, prayed, put together a nice business plan, as God says write the vision on paper, done your research, checked out the need for such business, researched the the kind of business of your dreams or vision, have the skills to do the job, and continue to seek God in prayer, there is HOPE, and the end resilts will be that you have done everything necessary on paper preparing to start a business, and you have faith to believe, and trust in God, and to know that God will make the PROVISIONS, and this give you the HOPE to endure until it is time for it to come to pass. So you wait patiently with HOPE that you will soon start your business no matter how lng it take down the road for it to get started.
Therefore Faith is that indregdent (substance) of things (business) that you hope for, and knowing that you qualifiy to operate such a business, have done eveything necessary to PREPARE for the start of a business, and prayed seeking God's will that you get the grant you all things needed.
So you you wait patiently with great expectations for a go ahead from God as to when to start the business.
I tried to beak this down as simple as possible... Fath comes before hope can be established, becasue hope is the end resutls of that which you have faith in to come to pass.
Here you go PJ, we put pur faith into action to receive the gospel, and in doing so, we have FAITH to believe in Jesus Christ, and in doing so we have salvation. Our HOPE is to see Him one day face to face... therefore we wait patiently with great EXPECTATIONS in that HOPE of seeing Him... and while we wait for that marvelous day, we make PREPARATIONS spiritually by living right according to His will here on this earth, so that we can see Him...
There are people here on this forum who have dreams, visions, desires for a wife or husband or whatever, and personal, financial, and spiritual needs. They are praying and praying faithfully daily for God to answer their prayers... BUT what they are missing is the HOPE of anything ever coming to pass.
You know why? BECAUSE THEY FAIL TO PUT GOD'S PRINCIPLES FAITH INTO ACTION outside of just praying, and they doubt. They have only the flour, and the eggs(prayer) but not the other ingredients.
They have not written their dreams or vision out in an outline as to how everything will look on paper whether its a business or ministry, no business plans, or researched what it will take to start a business, they have done nothing but prayed. No preparation or expactation because they feel that it will not come to pass. NO HOPE! only doubt.
They seek a wife or a husband, and they pray, but what are they doing with their FAITH, by diligently searching for a wife or husband according to the character and quality God has required, and not settling for less? Have they changed their behavior from the one they had in the last relationship or are they still the same nagging ugly creature, what imporvements have been made? What are they doing to PREPARE THEMSLEVES to be a wise godly husband or wife financially, or spiritually, emotionally or mentally? Unlike thier last and passt relationships, and to get rid of their past relationships from their minds?
Many are seeking jobs, but what are they doing to get the job, oh, I know some will say I go put in applications, but is that enough? NO!... what about a nice resume, researching for the interview, improving on the skills they do have or even seeking new skills or a new trade. God has gifted all of us with more than one gift and talent. When one thing burns out, move on to the next talent or gift.
Forgetting those things of the past and PRESSING toward the mark of a higher call... some people are complacant and refuse to get up and make changes in their lives, so they only have wish lists, longing and desiring for whatever they seek, and think God is going to make it happen for them.
God isn't going to make anything happen for us until we put our Faith into action and do everything neccessary to show Him that we are sincere. Our faith, expectation, and preparation moves the hand of God in our favor, and this is our HOPE that He will brings things to pass when we have done all things necessary toward those things we request of Him in our prayers.
We'll waiting on God, but He is sitting looking at us saying, No, I'm waiting on YOU to show me your Faith in action!
