The Bible tells us that when we die we will spend eternity (a very long time, wouldnt you agree?) in either paradise or torment. Matthew 25:46. If we search the Bible, with an open mind and heart, we will discover what God says about how to gain eternal life in heaven. If not, maybe we are relying upon what friends or family or churches have taught or told us. Is this wise? Or should we investigate for ourselves? If you were buying a car, would you rely upon what you were told or would you check it out for yourself? If you were buying a home, would you rely upon what you are told or would you check it for yourself? Eternity is much more important than earthly matters. Lets look at what God says, week by week, to see how what we might think compares with what the Bible says. Then, remember, God promises that if we seek him we will find him! I Chronicles 28:9, II Chronicles 15:2, Proverbs 8:17.

We will go through the New Testament of the Bible, week by week, stopping at each of the hundreds of verses that tell us how we might gain eternal life in heaven. But, first, let us spend a moment considering whether or not the Bible is true, and inspired by God, as it declares in II Timothy 3:16, or whether it is a pack of fairy tales, as some would contend. If the Bible is not true, such a search is without any value. But, if the Bible is true, and God does tell us in the Bible how to gain eternal life and avoid eternal torment, then this is the most important search that any of us will ever conduct.

There are many proofs that the Bible is true, but let me mention a few. The center of the Bible is Jesus and the key question here is whether or not he rose from the dead, as the Bible says. If he did, I think this would prove the Bible is true, dont you? Will you be writing out todays date at any time? 2007 means 2007 years from the birth of Jesus. Something important must have happened back then to establish our dating system. And, do you notice a difference between the Christian countries of the world and the countries that have been plagued by false religion? If not, I suggest you turn on your television news this evening and you may notice some differences. And, finally, let us consider the disciples. All but one of the remaining eleven died a martyrs death for teaching that Jesus was God. These men knew whether Jesus rose from the dead or not because they were there. Did they die a martyrs death to protect a lie? If so, for what conceivable reason? Next week lets consider what may be the greatest outside proof of the Bibles truth and then well begin to look at verses that tell us how to gain Gods great gift of eternal life in paradise!

Before we start looking at salvation verses, lets look at a great proof of the truth of the Bible. How do we know the Bible is true and not one of the other multitude of false religions? Lets consider prophecy. Most of the false religions of the world do not even attempt prophecy and those that do invariably get it wrong. Humanism, the man centered religion of todays elite, and many others, published its Bible, the Humanist Manifesto I, in 1933. Within 40 years, in 1973, it had to be rewritten (the Bible has never been rewritten) as their first Bible couldnt even accurately predict 40 years hence. And, these scholars are still rewriting the Bible they couldnt quite get straight (and never will). But in the real (i.e. Christian) Bible are hundreds of prophecies, most already fulfilled to the letter with only a few yet to be fulfilled. For example, thousands of years ago it was predicted that Jerusalem would be destroyed, the Jews exiled and scattered and persecuted, and that the Jews would again be drawn to Israel to there recreate their nation (which occurred in 1948). The Bible also foretold that Israel (a tiny nation no bigger than most of our states), as we approach the end of time, would become the center of world history--and if you dont believe that incredible prophecy is being fullfilled before your very eyes, just pick up and read any newspaper any day of the week. See http://www.aboutbibleprophecy.com for references to these and many other prophecies. I think we should worry a lot less about todays maddening political situation, which God will deal with in His time, and a lot more about where you and I will spend eternity. The Bible, for example, has a lot to say about what will happen in the Mideast in the coming years - - but more importantly it has much more to say about where you and I will spend eternity.

You are not being honest with the readers here...

15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, 1 Peter 3:15

Seems Jude thought it was very important. Who are we to believe, you or the bible? Notice what Jude here calls necessary.

3 Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.

"God choose those who choose His Son to be the elect."

But what does the Bible tell us? It tells us the exact opposite.

Romand 9

11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

Not of our own wills but of God who shows mercy.

Paul here is defending some truth for you. I'm trying to make it as simple as possible to see this as well by using verses with the word "defense".

2 If to others I am not an apostle, at least I am to you, for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord. 3 This is my defense to those who would examine me. 4 Do we not have the right to eat and drink?

7It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. Philippians 1:7...here we see the gospel being defended. And again...16 .The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.

We have seen no admission from you that you can even defend your view. That is very troubling. It's also troubling that you outright deny the scripture that teach truth is worth defending. Again, are you content with not being able to defend your views and are you equally content with blatantly denying the scriptures that say we should defend truth?

Actually you gave no defense from scripture of your views on predestination. You gave no counterargument to any of those who refuted. You said truth doesn't need to be defended and have not even admitted you were wrong on the comment. You completely ignored it other than to say that you now actually have defended your beliefs, which is completely untrue. How about we stop talking past each other and actually address what each other are saying. We can't get anywhere if you are just going to continue to make statements of fact that you cannot defend and ignore everyone who refutes them. That mindset has caused you to be slippery with your tongue on topics such as the defense of true. Surely you don't want to be someone who is leading the readers into wrong beliefs? How about an honest discussion on the topic?

""God choose those who choose His Son to be the elect."

Does the Bible teach this idea or reject this idea? It rejects it!

2 Tim. 1:8

8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began

Not according to OUR WORKS (OUR Choosing) but according to his own purpose and in Christ before the world began.

I didn't post my opinion as it related to defense of truth. I gave you clear scriptures. You deny them at your own peril. I question though what kind of example you are setting for new believers who may be viewing this thread. You want them to be taught that not all scriptures matter, just the ones that line up with your own thinking? I sure hope you don't lead others on that path.

While you would love for people to believe this is merely about a difference of opinion. I have shown that it is not by using the scriptures. Since you will not defend your view from scripture, we are left only to assume that you cannot.

You don't have to respond to everything I say, but you should honor the scriptures. Be prepared that if you post misleading and factually incorrect comments, you will be responded to. This is a Christian forum. We shouldn't all have a different belief in faith. That almost sounds like more of a defense for all religions than it does Christianity. Next time you are going to certain posts that you aren't willing to defend even when you are shown by the scriptures that you should defend them....just think twice about posting. It may be beneficial to just keep it to yourself.
