Revelation 9: 15 and 9:18, Metaphoric Entities Kill A Third Part of Men

Revelation 9: 15: "And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men."

Revelation 9: 18: "By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths."

The Textus Receptus and the Westcott-Hort Greek texts for Revelaion 9: 15 and Revelation 9: 18 say the same thing.

If there is a difference between the King James Version for Revelation 9: 15 and 9: 18 and the newer English versions, the difference is not due to differences in wording in the two Greek texts. The recent English versions are almost all from the Westcott-Hort.

New American Standard Bible: Revelation 9: 15: "And the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released, so that they would kill a third of mankind."

New American Standard Bible: Revelation 9: 18: "A third of mankind was killed by these three plagues, by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone which proceeded out of their mouths"

New American Standard Version: Revelation 9: 15: "And the four angels were loosed, that had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, that they should kill the third part of men."

American Standard Version Revelation 9: 18: "By these three plagues was the third part of men killed, by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone, which proceeded out of their mouths."

New Revised Standard Version: Revelation 9: 15: "So the four angels were released, who had been held ready for the hour, the day, the month, and the year, to kill a third of humankind."

New Revised Standard Version: Revelation 9: 18: "By these three plagues a third of humankind was killed, by the fire and smoke and sulfur coming out of their mouths."

New International Version: Revelation 9: 15: "And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind."

New International Version: Revelation 9: 18: "A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths."

The Strong's Exhaustive Concordance for third is Number 5154, tritos, from 5140, "as noun, a third part, or as adverb, third time, thirdly."

For some reason the New American Standard Version follows the King James Version in saying a third part of men. But the other three recent versions shown above all say a third of men or of mankind were killed by what comes out of the mouths of these metaphoric entities of Revelation 9: 15-18.

Saying, within the metaphoric language, that a third part of men were killed, like saying the third part of men were killed by what came out of the mouths of these metaphoric entities, is a clue to the meaning of the metaphor. Changing the verse wording to say a third of men were killed removes this important clue. The result is that Revelation 9: 15 and 9: 18, from these more recent translations.are more likely to be literally interpreted, that one third of men will be physically killed, and this is not what the metaphor is saying.

The NIV, the New Revised Standard Version and the New American Standard Bible also fail to follow Strong's definition of the Greek word tritos, that is means as a noun a third part.

The Geneva Bible for Revelation 9: 15 says "And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men."

The Tyndale Bible for Revelation 9: 15 says "And the iiii. angelles were loosed which were prepared for an houre for a daye for a moneth and for a yeare for to slee the thyrde part of mem."

I wonder what the New King James does with the Greek word tritos. Here it is for Revelation 9: 15; "So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a third of mankind."

OK. Most of the new versions of the NT slant Revelation 9: 15 and 9:18 toward a literal interpretation, saying that these metaphoric entities will kill one third of men, not a tird part of men.

You cannot do that, a translator cannot introduce his own interpretation, in any more subtle way, into his translation.

My NKJV has always been the one I take to church but in my own personal meditation I have always prefered my KJV.. Reguardless I have faith that it is the Spirit of God to lead everyone of us in truth.

When I study and allow my self to be open to revelation of truth I always come humbly and with an openess asking God to lead me by His Spirit. That is the only way to know truth.....revelation through the Spirit.

Ya...my Church uses the NKJV...however I have personally found that there are some differences in structure and wording...words have specific meaning in the Hebrew and Greek...so for me its AKJV only...I wasn't meaning others have to use it...I know TC does so he will relate to my comments...Its the Only BIBLE I can Read and Understand Literally and Spiritually...I agree that we must come humbly before the LORD and mediated on his word...always...xo

Revelation: "9:14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.

9:15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

9:16 And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.

9:17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.

9:18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.

9:19 For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like to serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt."

II Peter 2: 1-3:

2:1" But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privately shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingers not, and their damnation slumbers not."

Stick with the 1611 King James Version.

There are prophecies in the Old Testament which support II Peter 2: 1-3, making merchandise of you, and Revelation 9: 15 and 9:18 on a third part of men being killed, that is, their spiritual life is done away with - by the army of false prophets.

Daniel 12: 7 says that when "he" has accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished. This indicates that the power of the holy people will be broken, "scattered," or diminished at a

time very close to the end of the age, during the timeline of the New Covenant Christian community.

In Daniel 12: 7 scatter is from Strong's number 5310, "to dash to

pieces, or scatter, be beaten in sunder, break in pieces, broken,

dash, cause to be discharged, dispersed..."

In other words, scatter in Daniel 12: 7 is not limited to dispersing over the world, but it means to dash to pieces, broken.

Christ says in Luke 11: 23, "He that is not with me is against me: and

he that gathereth not with me scattereth." Gathereth is from

Strong's number 4863, sunago, from 4862, sun, "denoting union," and

from number 71, ago, to lead, bring together. Gathering, as the

opposite of scattering, means to bring into union with Christ.

Scattering would mean the opposite, leading people away from union with Christ. False Prophets, who have taken over the churches, lead people away from union with Christ.

"And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up." Daniel 8: 23

The dispensationalists jump up and down and say this king of fierce countenance is their super one man political leader the anti-Christ, not realizing that they are supporting physical Israel, which as a house rejected Christ, and is anti-Christ, of the spiorit of anti-Christ.

n Daniel 8: 23 the "transgressors" who are said to come to the full, or the height of their influence, is from the Hebrew word pasha, 6586

in Strong's, which is said to mean "to break away, from just

authority, i.e, trespass, apostatize, quarrel, offend, rebel, revolt, transgress."

Daniel 8: 23 predicts that those who apostatize, quarrel and rebel against truth will come to their full. The transgressors are first of all the false prophets, the serpents, and also their followers, the scorpion-locusts.

I John 4: 1 tells us that " Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world."

"And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered." Daniel 8: 12

An host, like an army, casts the truth to the ground. These, again, are the false prophets and those they deceive. The apostasy runs twice, in the Old Covenant and again in he New.

Joel 2:7-10 calls the metaphoric locusts which attack the vine and fig tree an army of horsemen and in Joel 2: 20 they are described as the Northern Army. In Revelation 9: 16 a huge army of horsemen are described. In Revelation 9: 18 a third part of men or of man is killed by the fire, smoke and brimstone which comes out of the mouths of this army of horsemen.

We are all spiritually dead until or unless we receive salvation, are born again into God's family. Once we are saved, we have the gift of eternal life.

Those who enter eternity without salvation face the second death...eternity in hell.

32Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

8Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: 9But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

6But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness;

{{{{{{{{{{{{and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. }}}}}}}}
