What if by Being God, Jesus had Full Authority to Forgive Sins?
"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."
(Psalm 103:2-5)
WE can agree that God can Forgive Sins:
"I, I am He who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins."
(Isaiah 43:25)
Before Jesus was born God was known as a Forgiving God:
"Who is a God like thee, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger for ever because he delights in steadfast love. He will again have compassion upon us, he will tread our iniquities under foot."
(Micah 7:18-19)
It was foretold that Jesus would Forgive Sins:
"Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit; and her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, �Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for HE WILL SAVE HIS PEOPLE from their sins.� All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: �Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel� (which means, God with us [Meth� hemon ho Theos])."
(Matthew 1:18-23)
Simply stated Jesus is able to Forgive Sins because He is God.
Benedictus brings up an Excellent point in that The Sacrifice on The Cross Transcends TIME (both forward into the future and backwards into the past). In this way God�s Plan of Salvation reaches those after The Sacrifice and before also.

You'd be surprised how much we agree upon (and then maybe you wouldn't).
Truth is Truth...now...yesterday...always!
It's when we men try to cram it into our our own limited understanding that truth gets "defaced" somewhat. Jesus made sure that His Plan of Salvation would not go spinning through Time like a Top. That is why He Established a Church and gave Her The Holy Spirit.

Thunder is right. The Law never saved anyone.
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
v4a-8 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain. By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
