Fighting The Blues by Pastor Joel Osteen

Especially for Richard... enjoy and be blessed!

We all have times when we wake up in the morning and feel the blahs and blues; we don't feel very excited. But just because we feel those emotions doesn't mean we have to stay there and give in to them; we can shake it off and move forward in faith relying on God's strength.

A great example of someone in the Bible who had a lot of experience in shaking off negative emotions is David. He had to fight being moody, and he was the King of Israel. He had all kinds of opportunity, power and position. He was wealthy, and yet, he still struggled with being depressed and discouraged. That tells me that having to choose to rule over negative feelings is something every person has to deal with. Don't think you're alone if you feel this way. Turn to God and His hope. Don't think, "If I just had more money, if I had a better job, if I had a different spouse, then I'd be in a good mood, Joel. Then I wouldn't have to deal with these feelings." No, you may think that, but every person has to fight the temptation to just give in and live by how we feel.

I love what David did; he talked to himself. He said, "Why are you cast down, oh, my soul? Hope in the Lord." That's Psalm 42. He was saying in everyday language, "David, what are you doing in a bad mood? Stop looking at your problems and start looking at your God." That tells me that true joy is found only in God, when you take your eyes off of how you feel and your circumstances and place them on God and His Word.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is talk to ourselves and speak scripture over our lives. When you're tempted to be in a bad mood, go look in the mirror and say, "Listen here, self. You need to cheer up. Get your joy back, get your peace back. I'm not going to live this day defeated." You have to stay on the offensive. Don't wait until you've been down for three days before you decide to do something about it. The moment you feel that discouragement trying to come on you, rise up and say, "No, I'm not going there." You wake up in the morning and feel the blahs, you say, "Nope, that's not for me. This is going to be a good day. It's the day the Lord has made."

Do you know being in a sour mood because of your problems doesn't make it better, it makes it worse? It puts more pressure on you. It makes you more miserable. A better approach is to say, "God, I'm turning this situation over to You. I'm not going to let it steal my joy. I know You're in control. And at the right time, I believe You'll not only turn it around, but You'll bring me out better off than I was before." That's how we rule over negative feelings. It's simply a decision that we make every day where we have to dig our heels in and decide that our feelings are not going to dictate what kind of day we're going to have. You can rule over your emotions and choose to be in a good mood in spite of how you feel. You can choose what kind of day you're going to have. You can choose how you're going to live your life.

I know some of you, maybe in the natural, have a good reason to be down and discouraged. But don't allow yourself to go there. When you are stable in spite of what's come against you, that's one of the best ways to show God that you're trusting Him.

Decide not to live by how you feel. Go deeper than that and start living by what you know. You know God is in control. You know He's got a great plan for your life. You know His power is greater than any other power. When you wake up and those old negative, discouraging thoughts and feelings come, shake them off. Be done with that roller coaster living. Don't give into your emotions and let them keep you from God's blessings and promotion. Start choosing to live each day in God's peace. Decide that you're going to have a great day. By doing so, you will see God work in your life in greater ways because your eyes are fixed toward Him instead of your situation, and you'll live the life of victory He has in store for you!

RKF, firstly, thank you for your concerns, but you also take heed to what I say to you...of all what Richard says, he know not one things about me or who I follow. Plus, Ricard follows no one, he is not even a member of anyone church and has not teachers to follow outside of his OWN opinions and lack of spiritual understanding of God's word. Unable to explan not one scripture he post if you ask him...

Secondly, those who listen to Joel and follow his ministry are many who are helped. There are those no matter what ministry they follow will not be helped even from reading God's Holy word.

Joel has some very good messages and every Book in the BIble does not speak God's name or about Jesus, yet those who are spiritual know its of God and from God. If Osteens messages are not of God then let God be the one to correct him, if you cannot point out WHAT it is that he is saying that is not true to scriptures.

There are those who think the Songs of Solomon isn't the gospel, but it is, and yet it says not one wrod about God io Jesus, but a spiritualminded person knows that is it is all about God and His love for us.... uh, sprry maybe everyone DOESN'T know this:laugh:

if you have only listen to a few of Joel's sermons, and if they did not help encourage you toward overcoming whatever problem you might have had, then his words are not for you... but don't try and stop others from aginging faith and encouragment from listening to him.

I don't follow Osteen but when I'm having down time, I will listen to him and I am lifted up in the Lord... I don't you understanding the workings of God, so stick aorund a little longer and watch the salvation of the Lord in your life move you to a higher level in spiritual matters that at this time you do not understand and are unable to put together spiritually.

As I said, John Macarthur doesn't have any room to call Osteen a false yeachers, or judge or condmen or rebuke Osteem, because John MacArthur is also known as a false teacher because of a lot of things he says, so I would not base not one thing on what anyone says over the internet, and for sure not on this forum, and God know not coming from Richard...

Discernment is a spiritual gift from God, and it does not just stop with someone you may not like or enjoy, it comes with hearing what a person says and being able to know if it is of God and if what is sadi is treu as it relates to you or what God has said.

And I find not one thing that Joel Osteen is teaching that is not in the Bible... now if you can show me something to the point that he has said that would classify him as a false teacher then lets talk about it...

What Joel is teaching is Biblical no different than what you read in the Old Testament when God sent prophets to help and assit people and speak a word fo encouragmnet to them to increase their faith. Its no different than what Jesus taught and did when people came to Him seeking healing, oe Jesus telling Peter to go get money from the fish's mouth to pay his tax, it increased Peter's faith and showed God's power.

what Joel teachers increases people's faith and many peole's faith is increased to know that there are others who are going through problem and only God can solve them. If you didn't have a problem how would you know God could solve them.

Life is not a bed of roses, and when people are down and out hearing about Jesus on the cross is not always what they need to hear at that tme, and if you read closely you will find the same in Jesus earthly ministry when He taught faith...

When I work on the streets with the homeless, this is not their foucs of hearing about what Jesus did on the cross, not at that moment... and its not good ministry to do such, You meet the immediate needs of people with the love of Jeus Christ is heloping them in those areas where they are hurting, THEN you tell them about what Jesus did on the cross unto their salvation. Joel meets the needs of many, evn of yours if you take time to listen to what he says and stop trying to prove whether or not he's a true teacher of the Lord or a false teacher.

Every one of his sermons that I have posted will speak to you right where you are within your situation and problems. Get the message and stop looking at the messenger...

Joel is to meet the immediate needs of hurting people where they are, they can hear other ministers who preach the gospel of Jesus and the cross... as I said you cannot help people without first meeting their mental and emotional needs FIRST... then give then the gospel... that's how it works and that's Bible...

Your words are stout against yourselves, and they have no merit, if the man was totally guilty ever one that has spoken out publicly would be guilty of greater sin than you say he is guilty of.

The first item on the forum to discuss is the gospel is not of many that continually speak out as such, you couldn't two to agree on the same thing.

Religious experiences is not the Gospel, the word of God is.

RKF, This came to me and thought I would share it with you.... Joel is called into exhoration. If Joel is not teaching how God works in his life when he's depressed, or feeling down or has lost his faith, and how God works in the lives of those he uses as examples in his messages, it means nothing. But he speaks about how God works in every day people's lives, and this gives those who hear him hope to go on.

As I try to explan to Richard, he says God called him to preach and teach about love through the quoting of scripture passages. I have no problems with that, if this is his call, but if he is unable to express how the love of God works in his life, and how love works through God in those passages and compare them to personal life experience( s) in a message, or as to how God showed his love toward himself and us unto salvation and personal deliverance to a person who is hurting, or is in need, or is depressed, what good are all those quotes from the BIble?

Hurting people have a need to see how God works in your life if you are the messenger. You can't tell a person about how Jesus saved you if you are still living in sin.You can tell me about thelove of Christ if you have not an experience of Him love in your life...

As I have told Richard, you can't preach or teach about love and never explain how love works, or what the passages of love are all about if you can't explain what God is saying in all the sciprute quotes he posts... and if you care to get spiritually technical, having a ministry of teaching or preaching all about love as Richard says he has is no different than Joel teaching all about encouragment to increase a person's faith. Just becasue Richard quotes scripture does not mean its of God, the ddevil also quoted scritpures to Jesus..

Faith is action just as love is an action word... unless the person is encouraged and motivated to get up and make a move, nothing is going to happen in their life and many need to know that its okay to get up, or to hang on, and endure until God moves their mountains, but they also must do something to show their faith in order for God to move the mountains in thier life. Jesus says if you have faith you can move speak to your mountains and they will move, but that takes confidence and encoruagment for a person to do such if he/she is downcast.

You cannot box God in your own little corner as Paul says there is much to talk about and preach baout that leads us to Christ... if your light bill needs paying and you don't have any money and no where to get any money, I realy don't think hearing someone preach about the cross and the blood of Jesus is going to help that person at this particular time. But hearing a soul stirring message about the GOODNESS of JGod thorugh Jesus Christ is is able to helping in the time of need, and to hear sermon about not giving up before you give God a chance helps a person to endure and look up to Jesus the author and finisher of their faith.

The gospel of Jesus is the New Good of salvation, which is not only measn eternal salvation, but salvation means deliverance in situations and circumstance in our life.

God commissions us to Go preach and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ, and part of the gospel is not only about the importance of eternal salvation and God's love, but He also taught about faith and emotional and mental deliverance and healing, and helping to set people free from bondgage as God say we are to pray for those who are in bondage when we fast, Isaiah 58:6 Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter...when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

And as Jesus said when He opened the book Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,

to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

Jesus taught about many things to people if you read the gospels about faith and encouraging others, and about the cross and the Father, and He was able to explain everything he taught with parables and illustrations and encouraged people in their faith, then He told them about the cross.

Certainly we agree that Joel Osteen:devil: has the gift of EXHORTATION and that he EXHORTS his Satanic followers to follow all the commands and principles of Satan which are the exact opposite of what Jesus taught. Osteen's :devil:Satanic prosperity Gospel is only popular in rich countries like the USA where even 80% of the poor have TV's cell phones cars and welfare checks and food stamps.

ET: You and Joel would make great missionaries to the 2 Billion very poor people in the world who make less than a dollar a day who would probably eat you for lunch.:eat::eat::buddies:

There were these 2 very poor Cannibals eating dinner and one cannibal said, "You know I really do hate ET and Joel who teach that ridiculous Prosperity Gospel!!" ........So the other cannibal said...."Well then... Just **EAT THE NOODLES!!"**:eat::eat::buddies::yay:

You Have Not Walked In Their Shoes by Joek Osteen

A few months ago, I met a young man and his girlfriend after a service. They had more tattoos and piercings than anybody Id ever seen. The man had tattoos up his arm to his neck, even on his face, and the young lady must have had a hundred different piercings. To be honest, at first, a critical spirit tried to rise up inside. I had thoughts like "Why do they look like that?" and "Boy, they must have a lot of problems, a lot of issues." But instead of staying there, I took out my critical eyes and put in Gods eyes. When I did, I had a different perspective. I was glad that they felt comfortable coming to church. I was glad that they took time to honor God.

Come to find out, he was the leader of a very successful heavy metal band. They just had a big concert in an arena here in Houston the night before. He said to me, Joel, I have never been in church one day in my life before. This is the first time I have ever set foot in a house of worship." He then gave me one of their CDs and said, "Listen to track number seven. Thats a song I wrote after listening to you."

After visiting with them, I found that they were not anything like I expected. They were some of the kindest, most genuine people that someone could ever meet even though on the outside, there were a thousand reasons to be judgmental and critical.

Ive found that people today are so quick to judge others by their outside appearance and quick to find fault. If somebody is not just like them, if theyre just a little bit different, instead of giving them the benefit of the doubt, they look them up and down and start to pick them apart thinking thoughts like "Well, I would never dress like that." "I would never drive that car." "Well, if I were them, I wouldnt have taken a vacation in this economy." "If I were them, I wouldnt send my kids to that school." "If I were them, I wouldnt wear that much jewelry." But heres the thing, youre not them. You dont really know what you would do because you havent walked in their shoes. Dont judge others because you dont know what theyve been through. You dont know the life theyve lived and the obstacles theyve faced. They might have a thousand tattoos covering them or wear jewelry from head to toe; they might not dress the way you would like them to, but it doesnt give you a right to judge. You have never lived their situation.

When youre tempted to be critical and find fault in others, remember the enemy is called the accuser of the brethren. Recognize where the source is coming from. Hes the one that wants you to be critical. I dont know about you, but Im not going over to that side. Im going to stay on Gods side. Im going to believe the best in others. There may be a thousand things that I can see thats wrong with them, but Im going to look and look until I find at least one thing thats right. Ive been forgiven much, so Im going to love much. And if I err, Im not going to err on the side of judgment. Im going to err on the side of mercy. After all, where would we all be without the mercy of God? If I hadnt had good parents and been raised in a good church, who knows where I would be today? Im not going to be condemning. Im not going to be a faultfinder.

How somebody spends their money, where they go on vacation, how they raise their children, or what kind of car they drive, Ive learned that is none of my business. I dont know about you, but I have a hard enough time trying to run my own life without trying to run somebody elses life!

One of the best ways that we can keep a pure heart free from judgment is to learn to mind our own business. If somebody takes four vacations a year, thats none of my business. If they drive around town in a limousine or come to church in a boat, thats none of my business. If they wear rings on every finger and every toe, thats none of my business.

Be careful not to fall in this trap of being judgmental of others. It will rob you of your joy and peace and allow the enemy to have a foothold in your life. Comparison, jealousy and strife have room to enter whenever we entertain these thoughts.

Jesus put it like this, "Dont pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults - unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging." Matthew 7:3-5 (The Message).

Decide to live judgment free in your life. If you do, youll not only live with more peace, but God will bless you, and your relationships will be blessed because the Bible says that in the same measure we judge, we too will be judged.

Ive learned to not pass judgment on others. There are too many other things in life that need our focus, and I dont know about you, but I need to use all the focus I have on what God has called me to do.

Ella says: Richard since you proclaim your ministry is all about following love and obeying the commands of Jesus, maybe you can explain where this lLOVE is in your comments that you continue to repeat over and over, as well as what command is this that you are obeying that Jesus told you? Because your comments in waht you posted below sure isn't of Jesus' love, nor can I find such command that you are made by Jesus that you should say such.

In fact, I see Jesus saying something completely different about the kind of TRUE LOVE we are to express, so where do you get your love, sure ain't of God.

So I declare you a hypocrite and what you speak is more satanic than what you accuse Joel of speaking...

Please point out in your comments below the Jesus kind of love and where I can find such in the Bible... maybe YOU should become one of his followers, and you wouldn't be so downcast to try and bring him down to your level. Also what are the commands and rpinciple of satan, and where can I find these commands and principles in the Bible?... you don't know the commands and principles fo God not to speak of those of satan...:zzzz::rolleyes: GROW UP! AND STOP BEING SO JEALOUS HEARTED! You're in spritual bondage!:purpleangel:

PJ, you know what?... there are those who THINK themselves to be Christians living according to God' sword who think its a sin to laugh and be of good cheer, or to hear encouraging words that lift them out the dust heaps.

God has told us to lift people up out the dust heaps and encourage those who are downcast and down trodden... and the only way those who find fault can live no matter how down they are they think iys what God desires f them to be down and out no positive in thier lives.

And they refused to be lifted up and enjoy life abundantly to the fullest, nor can they think any higher than they live, and they THINK they are being spiritual and walking in love and the things of God, when they find fault when someonewho is doing something they don't understand, nor can they comprehend, nor can they do, nor are they doing...

When things are not the way THEY THINK God works or it should be... they call it of the devil, but these kind of people are called hypocrites, moralist and legalist... they denounce things that God does because it surpasses THEIR limited spiritual knowledge and understand in the things of God, and blaspheme what they can't understand, and God says they TOO will be judge by Him because falsely condemning and unrighteously judging, this also is sin. Romans chapter 2

The TRUTH set us free, it does not put us in spiritual bondage. And when a person calls something a sin or of the devil, that God doesn't call a sin, and yet they cannot point to what it is or why it is a sin or of the devil, they had better watch out because it might be of God.

They said Jesus was of the devil because they rejected His teachings and His works and this is blasphemey... BUT Jesus had this to say to those who condemned and judged Him wrongly and unrighteously: Luke 11:14 - And Jesus was casting out a demon, and it was mute. So it was, when the demon had gone out, that the mute spoke; and the multitudes marveled. 15 But some of them said, He casts out demons by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons. Others, testing Him, sought from Him a sign from heaven. But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls. If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? Because you say I cast out demons by Beelzebub. And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. But if I cast out demons with the FINGER of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. 21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace.
