Choose whom you will serve...

Joshua 24:15And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

***** here it was a clear CHOICE for Israelites to make...serve God or serve the gods...

Numbers 21:8And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

***** an example of Christ in the OT which Jesus referred to in the NT. the Israelites disobeyed God, God sent poisonous serpents to punish them. The only way for them to live was to CHOOSE to look at the fiery serpent lifted up on the pole. The serpent was there for ALL of them, but if they did not have the faith that God would save them when they looked upon it and CHOSE not to look, they DIED.

John 3:14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

HOH: "Interesting that you would say here that the Israelites chose, when all throughout scripture we see that they were God's chosen people. Who chose who?"

Yes, the Israelites are God's chosen people; however, all did not choose to follow Him.

Have you never heard that not all of Israel is Israel? Anyway you are making my point that God did not choose based on who chose Him. Thank you

Why is it so troubling that mankind doesn't choose God.? When I first had that revelation it brought me so much peace.

I don't understand why believers are so offended by that concept.

John 1:10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

*** Receive means to take, accept, experience, welcome

*** Believe means to have confidence in the truth of something

Since John 1:13 is a continuance of verse 12 as evident by the ':' the verses must be examined together.

Verse 12 shows I must receive (take, accept, experience, or welcome) Christ to become a child of God...and to receive that adoption (Romans 8:15-17) by God we must Believe on His name

Verse 13 further clarifies how Christ is received (accepted, taken, experienced, welcomed) when born of the Spirit (John 3)

 -- NOT because of physical birth (blood) (not because I was Jewish or my parents were Christians);

-- NOT because I just decide I want to be a Christian - I can choose to be a Baptist, a Catholic, an atheist, etc - that doesn't make me a Christian, a child of God

-- NOT because someone deems me to be a Christian (I.e. being adopted into a Christian family or declares I am a Christian because of the works I do or Because I joined a church, etc)

To become a Christian, a child of God, is through the second birth, the understanding and belief that I am a sinner, my punishment is Hell, Christ paid my death penalty when He died on the cross, and I accept His sacrifice because I can never be good enough on my own.

John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

It's not an act of the will. Sorry, but it's plainly laid out in those verses. You are harping on received, just like you do for choose. All it says is that those who receive Him are the ones He gave the power to become His children. It does not say they chose to receive Him own their own, like you want it to. That is adding to the text.

Teach some are not interested in knowing the truth, they have made it quite clear.

One would have to be of a self inflicted hardened heart to make such statement's.

You simply cannot force it to say something it doesn't say. You wouldn't let me get away with it. I'm not going to let you.

There is no forcing the issue it is in black and white.

you either believe it or you do not.

Two things you have to deny the word of God, and you have to deny the spirit of God and his ministry in the believer.

Sorry PJ. It's just not there buddy. I know you really want to see it, but it's not. There is freedom in that though, knowing that your salvation is all a work of Christ and none of yourself.
