The word of God teaches that the Holy Spirit will lead and guide all that will hear him.

He does not support all the divisions started by man under the God of this world's influence.

It is vital for all to acknowledge the Spirit of Truth in all subject's and obey the word of God that men will not be deceived.

Jn 16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

Jn 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Jn 16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Jn 16:15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

The reason they could not understand some things yet is because THE Holy Spirit was not yet given until they where born again.

"7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you."

I will have to agree with TC on this one. Even though the vine passage is mutli facited it also is about prayer.

As you see asking is a activity of prayer is it not? I would also say that the word Abide could be translated as listening could it not?

So abiding in the vine ( listening) asking what we desire. These are relational to prayer are they not?

But I shouldnt be the one drawing these out the OP should have.

"I know that the topic is prayer and how can be fruitful in prayer."

And around we go in a circle....you already said this and I said, "based on what"

So I will ask again. You know this based on what?

There is one little mention of asking for something of God. If PJ thinks that makes the whole context about prayer then he needs to show why. I'd say he's got an uphill battle.

There is no battle to a believer, one only needs to accept the word of God as the truth.

What is asking? Is it not prayer? So you would rule out prayer as being a aspect of abiding in the vine?

There is no fruitfulness that would be acceptable to the father as any understanding here other than last.

There is zero merit in using this context to support reformation theology.

All men are chosen to be fruitful in every area of life and it has been so since the beginning of time.

God is no respecter of person's nor does he ever change anything he has said.

the simplest way I know to define abiding is obedience.

For instance refusing to see this context as it was expressed is disobedience and refusing to walk in the light as he is in the light.

Actually it is your tactic, you can not blame for your unwillingness or inability.
