The term Protestant may have been coined during the reformation of the groups of people who separated from the RCC. However, history shows that there have always been Christians that never aligned with the RCC or the reformation.
Protestant is another label man created to group 'like' people. Man aligns most Christians under the term Protestant to indicate they are not Catholic, Muslim, Hindu, etc. Protestant covers abroad group of denominations...if I must have a label, please label me Christian because that is what I am.
"Christian" is also a "man-made label". For fun, trace the history of that.

IWA, yes I agree the term Christian is man's label given to those who claimed to be followers of Christ to distinguish them from traditional Jews. It's the 'original' label...and although it has a watered down meaning in many arenas today, it is the closest label that I fit within. I am a follower of Christ and try to be more like Him as I grow in wisdom and knowledge as I study His Word.
