Posted : 27 Jun, 2012 10:43 PM It's one thing to notice how your pool of potential mates is limited to Christians. Then it's chopped off by a third when you become a cessationist. It's another thing when you become Reformed because it shrinks dramatically. It's even more drastically reduced when you become a Preterist. So are there any Reformed folk here? Cessationists? You are the one taking liberties with the text-the onus is on you to prove that the world DOESNT mean what it plainly states. And yr John verses refute what exactly? Those verses compliment my position-you read into "children of God" something it doesnt explicitly state as you believe it does because of your preconceived Calvinist ideas. As you say, let scripture interpret itself-1 John 2:2 alongside John 11:51-52 supports my position-not yours. Post Reply

If so, it is you who have the uphill battle of proving that with scripture. "As you say, let scripture interpret itself-1 John 2:2 alongside John 11:51-52 supports my position-not yours." John 1:13 is preceded by 2 verses that compliment my position! Read it in context of the surrounding verses along with the others I have given-stop cherrypicking 1 verse out of context. Please. Now this is interesting. Are you seriously trying to make me believe that "world" is only ever used to mean one thing in scripture? I really hope you are joking. BTW, since you are asking for proof, kindly read verse 17 in the third chapter of John and tell me what the word "world" mean.
