The New testament speaks of this word in at least three different meanings, and they are none related.

1.When a average christian hears the word confession, they usually think of it in the negative context as in confession of sin, which is scriptural for a christian it is not for a person that is lost.

1st Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

2. Then there is the confession where a sinner confesses, The lord Jesus and receives the remission of Sins. Tradition likes to teach a sinner must confess his sins but the word of God does not teach this in the new testament.

Ac 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

Ro 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

3. We are to maintain a profession of our faith in our inheritance which is literally saying what the word God says about us.

Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

Ps 107:2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

The word profession in this scripture is actually the word confession.
