How holy the temple of the Spirit should be!
Reader, are you a temple of God the Holy Spirit? Then dedicate yourself unreservedly to God. You are not your own. Your body, your spirit, your family, your substance, time, talents, influence, all, all belong to God. He dwells in you. He walks in you. He rules in you. And he calls you his dwelling-place. "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?" Then, what a separation there should be between you and the world that lies in wickedness! How you should guard against every unnecessary entanglement with it! How cautious and prayerful, lest, by contracting an unholy alliance with it in any form or degree, you should defile the temple of God, which temple you are!
Oh, what heavenly wisdom you need so that you might walk with unspotted garments! What holy circumspection you need so that no rival should enter your heart! What ceaseless prayer you need so that no lofty views of self, no spirit of worldly conformity, no stalling tactics, no known sin, no creature idolatry should enter there! What grace you need so that, like the heavenly temple, nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anything that is shameful or deceitful be cherished or entertained in the abode and in the presence of the Holy Spirit (Rev. 21:27)! "For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, 'I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.'" (2 Cor. 6:1416).
Reader, whose temple are you? Solemn question! Does God dwell in you, or does Satan dwell in you? Christ or Belial? Light or darkness?
At this moment, either the one or the other has entire possession. You cannot serve two contrary masters. You cannot entertain two opposite guests. You are either living for God or you are living for Satan. You are either traveling to heaven or you are traveling to hell. Which?
On your bended knees before God, decide now. And may the Lord the Spirit renew you by his grace! And if he renews you, may he make you "a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work" (2 Tim. 2:21).
