Just what does Paul mean by all of this, when he says "Do not quench the Holy Spirit"? And how does quenching the Sprit works? In other words, how do we quench the Holy Spirit? Post Reply
View Profile History	Quenching the Holy Spirit Posted : 28 Sep, 2011 11:38 AM This words "Quench not the Spirit" are taken from the way of putting out a fire, a the sense is, we are not to extinguish the influences of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. Possibly there may be an allusion here to fire on an altar, which was to be kept constantly burning. The Holy Spirit is the source of true devotion, and hence the enkindlings of piety in the heart, by the Spirit, are never to be quenched. The Holy Spirit, in His influences on the soul, is here compared with fire that might be made to burn more intensely, or that might be extinguished. The Holy Spirit is represented as a Fire....devouring Fire because it is His province to enlighten and quicken the soul and to purge, purify, and refine it like gold from alloys-sins. We even can grieve the Holy Spirit. How? By our sin such as bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking, with all malice. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. Bahira, you are on a roll!:yay:... many Chritsian believers do not even realize that when they receive Jesus Chirst into their lives and repent of their sins, the Holy Spirit (Godhead) sets up residence within their hearts that very moment and they are filled with the pwoer of the Holy Spirit. And this is when He starts His work of regeneration, and empowering the believer and the conversion process, but UNLESS the believer surrenders totally to the Holy Sprit's OUT GOING the believer is quenching putting out the fire, the out pouring of the power of the Holy Sprit from within him/her life, hilding back the out going tf the Holy Spirit, and the believer is powerless in all things.
