He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justfied by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

"Saved" has a wide range of meanings. It includes salvation from God's wrath, which we all had incurred by our sinfulness.

The only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

Regeneration by the Holy spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation. The sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, by whose indewelling the Crhistian is enabled to live a Holy and separate life in this present world. Amen
