Ge 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Ge 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
When Adam And Eve sinned, their sin was giving place to their flesh or natural man and then the sin was complete when they ate of tree
Ge 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Man has always been a spirit being even after the fall, the death is simply the lord leaving the presence of man.
Just as it was from the beginning with Satan he was alive unto God, but when he was thrown out of heaven he became the prince of death, just as Jesus is the prince of life. He did not die spiritually as men think of death, his death was separation from the lord.
Pr 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
Ec 3:21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
Job 32:8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
Man's problem was not that his spirit was dead, but that his spirit was under Satan's dominion, we have even from the beginning after the fall and up unto the resurrection of Jesus man responding to God in faith, he did not lose that ability in the fall, he always has had the ability to choose.
The Spirit of man never dies as in like the death of the body.

amen PJ if the mans spirit died????? then what is gonna be tormented in hell for eternity! The death being referd to when man is dead in tresspasses and sin is speration from God, without Jesus to reunitie us with his blood sacrifice them whe are s[erate from God, but our spirit is not dead if it was why would it matter if we went to hell! if our body died nd our spirit was dead, then whatever was in hell wouldnt feel anything as A DEAD MAN HAS NO SENCES ( cant hear) as was pointed out in 1newguys post about Lazarus!
So a spirit that is dead can not feel eternal torment!

God said, Let there be light: and there was light. (Gen.1:3)
Genesis introduces the concept of one God in multiple persons, a concept later call the Trinity: God sia, Let us make man inour image, after our likeness, Gen. 1:26), emphasis added). Also early on, God gives a hint of Jesus' guture suffering and victory when he curses the sepent for deceiving Eve.
Genesis answers the great question "Where did I come from? Kowing the answer can give us meaning in a world that's otherwise hard to figure out.
