he Land of Israel. What does the word eternal mean? Eternal means eternal, everlasting, forever. That covenant is still valid today. But what was the content of this everlasting covenant?
He is the Lord our God;
His judgments are in all the earth.
He remembers His covenant forever,
the word He commanded, for a thousand generations,
the covenant He made with Abraham,
the oath He swore to Isaac.
He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree,
to Israel as an everlasting covenant:
To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the portion you will inherit (Psalm 105:7-11).
An Eternal Covenant
These are impressive words. The eternal God made an eternal covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and with Israel, their descendants. The Lord has made a solemn oath.
The Lord cannot swear by anyone higher than Himself, for no such person exists, so He swears by Himself: By Myself I have sworn, My mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked the Lord says to Isaiah (Isa. 45:23). In a psalm the Lord says, Once for all, I have sworn by My holinessand I will not lie to David (Ps. 89:35).
When God makes an oath, it is absolutely trustworthy. He made a solemn oath to Abraham (see Gen. 12:1-3; 17:4-8), and Isaac (see Gen. 26:2-5), and Jacob (see Gen. 28:13-15; 35:9-12), and an eternal covenant with Israel when He said, To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit.
What does the word eternal mean? Eternal means eternal, everlasting, forever. That covenant is still valid today.
What was the content of this everlasting covenant? To you I will give the land of Canaan. That was what God said to Abraham in Genesis 12:13, and repeated to Isaac and Jacob, and on numerous other occasions. It is My land, said God (see Lev. 25:23), and I give it to you, to Israel.
When the Lord promised it to Abraham, the land was inhabited by the Canaanite peoples (see Gen. 15:13-21; Deut. 7). Yet God still gave the land to Israel.
God's coenant with Israel HAS NOT BEEN BROKEN, NEVER WILL BE BROKEN, NEVER CAN BE BROKEN, AND HAS NOT YET BEEN FULFILLED, AND WILL NOT BE FULFILLED UNTIL JESUS PLANTS HIS FEET IN THE MIDDLE OF JERUSALEM!
When God makes a PROMISE He fulfills it no matte how long it takes. He is a MAN of His Word, unlike some:applause::glow::yay:
Look how long it took God to fulfill His promise to Abraham with the son of promise, no matter what Abraham did on his own to bring the promise to pass out of disobedience... God's Word is a sure foundation that stand ON SOLID GROUND!:yay::rocknroll:
