The Prophesied time of the death of Messiah!!! Daniel 9:24-26

Hello everyone:

I have enjoyed the question asked by Agapeton concerning the ministry of Yeshua.

Was the time of the ministry of Yeshua oneyear,or three years.

Let us have the WORD of YHWH speak with us about this matter.

We will be looking into the book of Daniel concerning this prophesy..

From the Literal Translation

Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are decreed as to your people, and as to your holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make atonement for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy.

Dan 9:25 Know, then, and understand that from the going out of a word to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem, to Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks and sixty two weeks. The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in times of affliction.

Dan 9:26 And after sixty two weeks, Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself. And the people of a coming ruler shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end shall be with the flood, and ruins are determined, and war shall be until the end.

From Youngs Literal Translation

Dan 9:24 `Seventy weeks are determined for thy people, and for thy holy city, to shut up the transgression, and to seal up sins, and to cover iniquity, and to bring in righteousness age-during, and to seal up vision and prophet, and to anoint the holy of holies.

Dan 9:25 And thou dost know, and dost consider wisely, from the going forth of the word to restore and to build Jerusalem till Messiah the Leader is seven weeks, and sixty and two weeks: the broad place hath been built again, and the rampart, even in the distress of the times.

Dan 9:26 And after the sixty and two weeks, cut off is Messiah, and the city and the holy place are not his, the Leader who hath come doth destroy the people; and its end is with a flood, and till the end is war, determined are desolations.

From The King James Version

Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

In verse 26,the time is 62 weeks;then Messiah will be 'CUT OFF'.

These 62 weeks,are these 62 years,Or are they a literal 62 weeks?

Shalom

The Farmer

The period of the Babylonian captivity, approximatley 605-538 BC.

Faithful to God in a challenging sitting, Daniel is blessed.

The final six chapters contain Daniel's prophetic visions, including that of "sevnty weeks" of the end times.

Hey, bro. Nice thread.

I haven't done this in a long time but if you look at the text in light of the Jewish context and history, then we have to see that Daniel was already told by Gabe that the second temple would be destroyed by the people after the Greeks(Chapter 8. The Greeks represent Alexander the Great in History. Historians(both secular and religious) actually mention this chapter and the vision that Daniel had regarding him as an amazing prophecy that was filled to the T.). Bare in mind that Daniel was in Babylon and he was there during the time of the exile of the Jews and the 1st Temple was already destroyed without the 2nd being built yet.

The Daniel 9 prophecy was basically there to show that the Messiah would come during the second Temple period before it got destroyed with no other temple after it. This prophecy was so important to the Jews that they actually have set their calendars to the day that the messianic era started for them. Funny, huh? I have a few practicing Jewish family members and I usually throw this around with them when ever we speak of their faith. I always ask them how come the Messianic era started without the Messiah they were awaiting for never came to restore the people before the destruction of the final temple.

I got my Talmud through them. Awesome stuff really. Do you have software called e-sword? If not, then I suggest that you down load it when you can and look for the Talmud module. I used to have the link to the online Talmud but this is a new pc so I'm kinda rebuilding my links again.

Anyways, back to the topic. From what I remember, the 70 weeks are basically 490 years. Each week is supposed to equal 7 years. So from my recollection, the Messiah would come into his ministry around the end of the 62nd week and then be "cutt off" during it. One thing to note though; the Old Testament NOT ONCE mentions the second coming of Christ. Only the New Testament does. The Old Testament always spoke of the Messiah's FIRST COMING. Every book that we try to implement or even attempt to prove Jesus' second coming in the Old Testament is erroneously done and contrary to the very basics of the Scriptures.

This text is what guaranteed the Jews the coming of the Messiah's coming in the second temple period. The Jews knew when he was to be born. How, where and why. Oh yeah! Here is a little tid bit on who the wise men were and how they knew of the King of Judah was to be born. When the Scriptures say that these wise men came from the east, it points to right around the region of where Daniel was at the time. See the Lord sent His Word and the gospel message in those lands where Daniel was by the exile of the Jews. The wise men had to know something of the Scriptures in order for them to know of the king to be born at this event of the planet Jupiter being under the Virgo constellation.

How awesome is our God!

Dan 9:24 "Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place.

The top verse basically says that 490 years from the time end of the captivity to destruction of the 2nd temple, the Messiah would come, fulfill the law, take away the law, the sting of death, usher a new era finish the prophecy, and take his rightful throne.

Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand that from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of an anointed one, a prince, there shall be seven weeks. Then for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again with squares and moat, but in a troubled time.

This verse says that from the decree of rebuilding the 2nd temple by the Persian empire's decree in Ezra's and Nehemiah's day till the Messiah coming into his ministry would be 62 weeks.

Dan 9:26 And after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing. And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end shall come with a flood, and to the end there shall be war. Desolations are decreed.

And this verse basically says that the messiah would be crucified on the 62nd week and then later the Jewish Temple would be destroyed and the Jews would be dispersed and homeless.

Anyways, Hope this helps. :peace:
