1 Corinthians 15:3-4 and that he rose again the third day....

1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures

I'm curious if anyone could tell me where Paul could have gotten the idea that Jesus rose again the third day "according to the scriptures".

Can anyone show me where he could have got the idea that the "third day" was spoken about as a climactic fulfillment. After all, even Jesus alluded to Jonah being in the belly of the whale for "three days and three nights" in Mat. 12:40. Where would Jesus and Paul get such an idea from the Scriptures?

Any guesses?

Yeah, I'm bored and want something to do until something else turns up. What's your excuse? :zzzz:

Discuss. :waving:

By the way, I think that some of these emoticons really blow the big blue dog chunks. K. Just had to get this off my chest. I'm good now. Carry on. :dancingp:

Ok. Lemme start this off by giving a Scriptural clue as to where the "third day" reference to restoration or rescue from death. Maybe, this will start them off.

Hosea 6:1-2 Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight

Here is more.

2Ki 20:5,7-8 2Kings 20:5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD. 7 And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.8 And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day?

Note: This is also used in Rabbinical Messianic references to point to the "Son of David."
