I will lift up my eyes to the hills; from whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth (Psalm 121:1-2).
As Christians, too many times when we encounter problems our first reaction is to run to some human source instead of calmly seeking the Lord through His Word and prayer. So often we seek out the expert counsel of Mr. Worldly Wise instead of seeking the true wisdom of God in His Word. Yet Psalm 121 declares to us that our help comes from the Lord. The Lord is the Maker, Sustainer and Governor of heaven, earth, the sea, and every creature that exists, and its in Him that we live and move and exist (Acts 17:28). Our God possesses all wisdom and all knowledge of every event, person, place, and thing that dwells in heaven and on earth; Known to Go...d from eternity are all His works (Acts 15:18). And the Apostle Paul declares in Romans 4:17 that its God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were. In other words, theres NOTHING that escapes the knowledge of our God. David wrote in Psalm 139:1-4: O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O LORD, You know it altogether. And again in Psalm 147:5: Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite. The Scripture also tells us that the Lord knows the number of hairs on every head and He knows when each little sparrow falls to the ground (Matthew 10:29-30). Scripture also reveals that NOTHING can resist Gods almighty power. We read in Daniel 4:35: All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand or say to Him, What have You done? Therefore, let us continually look to the Lord in every situation of our life seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence (2 Peter 1:3). And so our text reads: I will lift up my eyes to the hills; from whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth (Psalm 121:1-2).
