How about askingWhat is the Word about here in Chapter 2 ???

Colossians ~ Walking Worthy of the Lord ~ Col 2 ~ Sufficiniency in Christ Jesus

Lets take a look see at verses 12-14 in context instead of focusing on the words made you shall we

12 ~ Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

*** 12 - Risen with him Part of being complete in Christ v10.

13 ~ And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened [made alive] together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

*** 13 - Having forgiven you all trespasses The blotting out (v14) describes this forgiveness which is for those who have died to their sins.

14 ~ Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

14 ~ having canceled the bond which stood against us with its legal demands; this he set aside, nailing it to the cross (RSV).

*** 14 - Blotting out the handwriting This verse must be understood in its context. You may wish to read the whole chapter. Following from verse 13, the blotting out is the forgiveness process or part of it.

*** 14 - Of ordinances Actually "in ordinances" or "in decrees." For background on this verse See on ep0214f.

*** 14 - Out of the way Literally, "out of the middle." Our sins separate us from Christ is5901f. The debt was paid in Jesus Christ, nailed to the cross he0928, is5304f. Thus our sins are confessed and forgiven 1jo0109.

The RSV translation above seems more accurate although less literal. We get the picture that the law accuses us and that the accusation or "bond" is removed. Of course, that is accomplished with the removal of the law which turns out to be the ceremonial law. Let's not lose sight of the blessing of grace, bought at an infinite cost!

What is Ephesians 2 about ~ Grace through Faith; brought near; Christ Jesus for us...

1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

*** 1 - Quicked...( syzoopoioo ) to make one alive... together of Christians...with Christ Jesus...Dead in trespassesThey were wicked and as unconscious or sleeping being unaware of their fateful condition.

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

*** 2 - Prince of the power of the airEvil angels, as well as good ones, are not visible. Satan's influence is everywhere, especially for the disobedient. Evil is around us like the atmosphere. So is grace ro0520.

3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

*** 3 ConversationThe word means behavior in modern English literally "to turn here and there."

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

*** See verse 1 ....

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

*** 6 - Sit ... heavenly placesWe may breathe the atmosphere of heaven through the grace of Christ. And one day we will be there ourselves sitting with Him in judgment re2004, re0321. The word, places, is not in the Greek text. It could mean "things." Obviously we are not physically in heaven. Paul is following his metaphor of being like Christ. In v1, we were resurrected.

7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

*** 7 - Ages to comeIn our heavenly home we will have the joy of telling others in the universe about the marvelous grace of Christ in saving sinners.

Be Blessed...xo

It means we believe what the word of God teaches, and is does not teach Calvinism vs, Arminian,

Jesus taught and still teaches that some believed and some would not believe.

I'm not asking what you believe about a Calvinist vs. Arminian debate...

I'm asking what it means that He made us alive.

Colossians 2:13...You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins.

You can not intelectualize Gods word jude. You must only believe by the enlighing work of the Holy spirit. Gods word says what it says you can not twist it to fit the god you worship.
