America At It's Best

I was reading this article today about Reclaiming Our Nations Heritage. It was saying that God is mentioned 4 times in the Declaration of Independence, it stated that firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence. Divine Providence defined in the 1828 Original Websters Dictionary states The care and superintendence which God exercises over His people So our Founding Fathers were acknowledging that God was guiding them in His Plans for America. So thats where Provential History comes into play which is including God in our historical studies. So why has the Christian Faith been deleted from history textbooks and other forms of teaching. Secular humanism has crept into our institutions leaving this country a big mess. So what should be done about this? What can we do to change this as Christians?

It really started in the 60s when the issue of prayer started to be raised. Little by little the other changes have crept in and now the textbooks aren't even close to accurate. I volunteer in schools and am appalled at the changes to the fundamentals of American History. For instance, my nephew's third grade book gave financial reasons for the pilgrims leaving England to come to America...my ancestors came over on the Mayflower...fleeing religious persecution for holding to their Biblical foundation.

The Bible used to be the text for teaching hidden to read...the KJV. Now we change the Word of God to 'make it easier' to read, make it 'more apealing' to the reader, make it 'gender neutral', etc.

Christians haven't taken a stand and when they do, they're looked at as pushing heir views on everyone else.

Too many so-called Christians vote for and support political leaders who obviously do not hold fast to Christian beliefs and values. The watering down of values allows for the social changes that have become 'acceptable'.

I do agree with you on most of what you said. I do however like the different translations. I have the NIV, ESV, NKJV and NASV. I enjoy comparing the translations it brings up much to discuss. It also helps me really understand the verse or chapter I was comparing.

My question was What can we do to change things? I personally think we should start creeping it back in to school and textbooks just like how it came out. I think it cant be done all at once because then non- Christians would feel werided out about it. And if we are going to try and make America a better place. It has to be done with Love not demands.

It's good that you brought this up. And I agree 100% that they should bring God back into the school system. It's crucial for kids to hear the message, even if they aren't Christian.

To change this, we should pray. Not only should we pray for the people who decide, but for the kids and teachers as well. Pray that God use them to do His will.

Agreed...with not all newer translations being bad. The NASB and ESV are two examples of good translations.

Amen, every generation falls further and further from God, because of the dumbed down religion. People go to church to be entertained. My grandfather always said we would be in trouble the day they took bible reading and prayer out of the school, and he was so right.

Shared ~ My question was What can we do to change things?

*** Can't go back...can't change whats been done in the past...can only go forward...it starts in the home...todays schools are centered around a education that perpares kids for the world and the thingS there in...unless they are attending a "Christian" school and many families can not afford this...

*** I would'nt have a clue how to "creep" it back into schools......maybe ifin it is done through the children them selves that have a sound rooted teaching in Christ Jesus and a understanding of what the schools will allow and won't allow......

I do not believe we as a people can make America a better place because it has strayed from the founding Fathers belief and trust in GOD...only He can do it...and Ima sorry to say...His focus is and always has been...Israel...We can Pray as the other gal here said...and that is what I be doing...:prayingf:....xo

GodsJude...God will guide us as how to "creep" it back in. I have faith things can change.

Prayer is #1 I agree but we cant sit around and be passive Christians..we must act and have faith the Holy Spirit will guide us.Its not only in the home its outside the home too. Churches, schools everywhere!

NO! God loves everyone..so I disagree with that comment. Back that up with Scripture.

2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

There is relevance to the issue on the Bible translations in this matter. Until the 60s and 70s, there weren't too many translations of the Bible in English. Now there are too many to list. Which do you memorize/hide in your heart? Confusion in church on translations introduces confusion in young minds.

Taking all the Christians out of public school won't solve the problem. Godly parents and solid church teachings will help. Voting will help...think about the values of the elected officials...do they align with Biblical teaching?

I put a poster up in the small Christian school I directed for a while..."as long as there are tests, there will always be prayer in school."

Share the Gospel, teach all that Jesus commanded. Stop watering down the message. There are penalties, punishments, and consequences for sin. God is a loving God...He is also a just God. Just as your earthly parents chastise (punish), your Heavenly Father will chastise. Too often we only want to hear about His love...we have to remember His punishment, too.

Amen kind heart, and teach ib. God is in control of his people and his creation, but it is our responsibility to act as children of the King, and live as he has told us in his word. We are to be a praying, and obedient people, to God not this world. We are not to conform to this world, we are to be salt and light in it.
