Deuteronomy 8:110; 1 Peter 1:45

Bible Text:

... an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fadekept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power (1 Pet. 1:45).

Devotional:

Gods people have been born again to a living hope. Now they look forward to their inheritance. When their hope is fulfilled, they will have what God has promised.

The blood-sprinkled people of the Old Covenant were called to possess their promised inheritance: an earthly country. In the same way Gods pilgrims today are on the way to what God has in store for them.

This inheritance can never perish, spoil or fade. It is beyond decay and deathjust as Jesus resurrected body isand it is unlike everything we know in the present world. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you." The Bible does not say that the inheritance is heaven but that it is kept in heaven. It is secure, inviolable. Gods power guards our legacy.

And God protects not only the inheritance but also the heirsthose who through faith are shielded by Gods power. God protects both the gift and the receiver, both the inheritance and the heir. Thats a great comfort, for sometimes Gods pilgrims must travel rough roads through dangerous terrain. Our only guarantee that the heirs will become the possessors is Gods guarding power over us and our children.

God holds us by his powerful hand, through faith, until we take possession of the treasures of the promised land.
