i think it is a learning process, you can not know the need of grace without knowing of the law first. I believe the most important thing to be preached from the pulpit today is sin, and how it applies to every day life. Nothing better than the preacher starting off from the bible, and giving application on how it applys to today's walk with God. Leading to me coming home and applying it to my own life. Praise God for his Spirit which teaches us, and guides us.
It depends...preaching and teaching from the Scriptures covers both topics.
My church focuses on getting the Gospel message out in the morning service...when there is the highest probability of unsaved or backslidden Christians in attendance. In the evening And midweek service the focus is normally on how to grow and live as Christians.
A pastor's job is to feed the whole flock as well as go look for the lost sheep.
Every service, including funerals and weddings, includes an explanation of the plan of Salvation and a presentation on how to receive the free gift of eternal life.
Grace and Law are the exact same. By grace we are saved, by the Law we show our love to God. I came up with this and am sharing it:
--------------------------------
Something I found online and felt I should share about Why do Messianics keep the commandments if they believe in Christ? The truth is, numerous times in the New Testament we are told to keep them. Many Christians believe that the commandments do not matter because Christ came and filled the prophecy, which is true. Read here:
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matt 5:17-20 (KJV)
As we can see, Christ says that until HEAVEN AND EARTH pass that we are to continue to observe the law. Many argue upon Yeshuas crucifixion He said It is fulfilled when in fact we read It is finished. I am putting the verse here for reference:
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. John 19:30 (KJV)
The truth is that while the commandments are not required for salvation, they are required as a sign of devotion to God and our willing to submit to His Will. Numerous verses are mentioned in the New Testament about how we are to keep the commandments.:
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matt 5:19-20 (KJV)
Matt , as posted above, specifically says we are to keep the commandments, no matter how little. For is we do not keep them, we are as the Pharisees and cannot enter heaven. If anything, Christianity has it wrong. In Acts 11:26 it says the Disciples (who would be Jewish, or Jewish by faith) were first called Christians in Antioch. This only goes to show that even now Christians are to be Jewish, however, our twisting of the Word of God has led to such a division. Messianic Judaism is the mission to bring back the TRUE way of following Christ. While we are saved by faith in Christ alone, the word also states this:
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. John 14:21 (KJV)
To truly show your love for Christ the commandments must be followed. You will hear many arguments about how the laws do not apply, and you are right. For SALVATION itself, the laws are not required. However, there is a catch: If you truly accept and love Christ, and confess Him as your savior, following the Law is required as part of that covenant. We are not perfect, but we are supposed to strive to be so. A good example is 1 Cor 7:19, which talks about how circumcision is neither needed nor not needed, but father we do it because it is commanded, and it is following the command that is important, no matter what the command is:
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God. 1 Cor 7:19 (KJV)
In closing, I will leave some addition verses that discuss the keeping of the law and some other important verses. I sincerely pray many Christians learn to know the Scripture, for there is much we do that needs to change, including the following of traditions of men, which we are warned about, such as Christmas, Halloween, Easter (all of which are pagan holidays, not Christian) as well as what we eat, say, watch on TV and how we act.
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. Matt 19:17 (KJV)
If ye love me, keep my commandments. John 14:15 (KJV)
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. John 14:21-24 (KJV)
If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. John 15:10 (KJV)
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God. 1 Cor 7:19 (KJV)
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 1 John 5:2-3 (KJV)
And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. 2 John 1:6 (KJV)
Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Rev 14:12 (KJV)
