SINNERS IN THE HANDS OF AN ANGRY GOD???

The sermon title especially is stuck on my mind ever since I heard it 10 years ago. "Sinners in the hands of an angry God" by Jonathan Edwards. Lets reflect and contextualise it.

Love that sermon, Edwards aim was to teach his listeners about the horrors of hell, the dangers of sin and the terrors of being lost. Edwards describes the shaky position of those who do not follow Christ's urgent call to receive forgiveness.

If more Preachers preached like that, there would not be so many lost today.

Dljrn... I agree its very challenging and correcting but threatening too. I have friends who converted to other religions because they were terrified by the teachings of hell in the church. I believe there should be a balanced teaching.

Isaiaih 30:10 They tell the seers, "Stop seeing visions!" They tell the prophets, "Don't tell us what is right. Tell us nice things. Tell us lies.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

These are those times

True Roc. But also the grace, mercy and forgiveness in Jesus needs to be taught and preached not just hell. Jesus did not come to condemn.

They are already under a sentence of condemnation to hell, and its nothing but the hand of arbitrary mercy, and God's mere will, that holds it back... What do you reckon is the will of God here in the context of pre-destination?
