catchy title there..lol

Most if not all have a set in their living rooms, bedrooms or somewhere in the house. Many justify its presence in the christian home thereby undermining the majority of vile images and ideas that the tube projects. We watch comedies with tasteless jokes (in a christian perspective), horror flicks that benumb our senses, reality shows and other programs that might appear harmless but have significant impacts (negative) on our walk and general outlook of the world.

I don't mean to say that everything on tv is bad but most is evil and so i ask; is the little good worth the amount of discernment required? can the very little good from tv justify watching it?

Psalm 101:3 i will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me

The nature of the ideas that tv has been propagating are witnessed by our almost permissive christianity as seen in our immodest modes of dressing, introduction of entertainment in churches and development of contemporary ideologies of otherwise rigid laws, regulations and requirements as written in the Bible. The world is diluting us into lukewarmness and we justify our habit(s) and in this context- watching tv.

Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Does tv then, have that great of an impact in your life?

Would God endorse ALLl the programs that you watch?

Is it worth the disernment?

Excellent post. If "christians" spent half as much time in Gods word as they did in front of the tv and computer, there would alot less denominations in this country.

It could be the Christian's advocate, depends on what one's heart is full of.

TV is a tool, a thing to be used. Personally, I do use it in ways that I shouldn't (way too much), and I am ashamed of that.

But my answer to that is not to STOP watching it. To keep using it requires discernment in what I watch, and in how much I watch, and it is difficult at times. Yet, it is still useful - the occasional soap, whodunnit, sports show (the Tour de France finished a day or two ago!) is entertaining (a good thing!) and is great for relating to other people. I've sat for hours in front of anims talking with my brother, I've laughed at recounts of a particular bean soup horror (from Aussie TV, folks), the media told me when to expect questions about "The Da Vinci Code"...

Is the good we Christians may glean from using TV worth the discretion? I'd say so.

Great post! I've been thinking about this 'issue' a lot lately.

A couple points, radical yes, but I believe in them...

1. Would Christ sit in front of a TV for hours a day or would he 'be about his father's business'? Would the apostles?

2. We all know how satanic the TV shows are, as well as the networks/executives that host them. Does anyone here want to contribute, thereby serving satan's interests (by paying a subscription fee) to something that, not only does not serve the Lord in any way, shape or form, but corrupts, and promotes a satanic 'outlook' in fellow brothers/sisters and non-believers as well? Why would anyone donate to an 'unworthy cause'?

3. How will YOU serve the Lord today? Can you actually turn off your TV and leave it off? Has TV become such an idol that you can't say no to it?

4. Once you make that decision to turn it off and leave it off...you WILL have hours to research scripture, serve the Lord (and others) and get your spirit where it needs to be, at peace with the Lord.

This is a TRUTH. You may take it or leave it.

1 John 2:28: Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.
