‎"Why is it that so many professing Christians make no spiritual progress, and indeed make no efforts to grow in grace? Why? Because they care nothing about it! To take up a mere profession is all they desire; but to proceed from one degree of piety to another; to grow in grace is no part of their desire... Is it possible to be a Christian and yet destitute of this desire to grow in grace? No, it is not! I tell you, it is not! If you have no concern to grow in grace there is no grace in you! You are a piece of dead wood and not a living branch! You are a spiritual corpse and not a living man! In this state there can be no growth for dead things never grow!" - John Angell James, "Christian Progress"

Just because someone is not growing in Christ, it does not mean they are not saved.

1 Corinthians 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

Paul is talking to Christians...who have been saved long enough that Paul is admonishing them for not growing in their walk.

I would guess based on the things Paul wrote about, these folks didn't look/act like Christians...

you can not stay a babe in Christ forever. There must be moving ahead and conforming to the image of Christ. Progression in sanctification.

Amen - the Holy Spirit still has power in a believers life. He is not impotent as other posters lead people to believe.

*** Ima not understanding Progression in sanctification here. How can a person progress in sanctification when ya already are ???....

1 Cor 6:11 ~ And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye [ are ] sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Jude 1:1~ Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that [ are ] sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, [and] called:

*** There are many people that profess Christianity and Christ Jesus as King that have not fully come to maturity in HIM...perhaps they are the meek and humble children...

Matthew 18:3 ~ And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

There is no question as to the Holy Spirit's role in a believer's life, but you are speaking as if he is the one responsible to be a doer of The word.

Btw it is interesting to note the false responsibility of The Holy Spirit in the lives of those that have rejected him.

For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. Hebrew 10:14

Your sanctification is ongoing
