Peter, Peter! oh for Pete's Sake
Posted : 4 Nov, 2012 06:40 AM

I am wondering if you know that I have a grudge about the Apostle Peter. I refuse to hear God's word in service or daily word reflections when it is from the decadade of Peter.

Please believe me that I love my relationship with Jesus for the rest of my life and at heavenly body. I love the way God loves me and cares for us.

Do you know that I might be the only one in the world who sees Peter as a victim? I need some time to discuss why I feel blessed to share a world with Peter and not with Jesus.

Peter was the only guy to walk on water besides Jesus. Paul refered to him as the "Greatest Apostle." Yet the Bible mentions Peters mistakes - and even thoughPaul said good stuff about Peter - Paul rebuked Peter sharply one of the times Peter messed up. Truth is people read about these great men of God and they wrap them in a religiousity that says they were supermen. But what they were is just normal guys that did extrodanary things by the power of the Holy Spirit.

No I can't say I would have followed Peter or could have. I would have been too busy following his directions or criticisms that would have blamed me for my own sins. That's just too confusing

Jesus and Peter saw two different ways. Peter blames for sins and Jesus forgave sins.

So sweetheart? Can you answer my question would you follow someone like me who loves you or would you listen to someone who wants you to worship them? I think you would see my side soon. I mean my point soon.

Love,

Jess

Seriously??? Peter was a man...a human.....just like you and me! There is no comparison. Jesus is God in flesh aka Son of God. He is the only to follow.....no one nor nothing else. Christ said he was building His Church upon Peter the rock....that should be good enough for everyone whether or not Peter is worthy as a human being..... He was and is!

I think the thing to be conscious of is that Peter, Like James and John, Paul and all the apostles were servants of Jesus Christ. We are also servants of Jesus Christ if we rely on Him for salvation.

While Peter and the other apostles varied in terms of how they delivered their message, their message was and is entirely harmonious and while at times on the surface there may seem to be contradictions between the 40 bible authors, deeper investigation always reveals that what they were communicating was entirely compatible.

There are different schools of thought in terms of how scripture should be interpreted, but I've always found that if you take the approach that the bible is completely true in it's original context and was written by the inspiration, leading and influence of the Holy Spirit it makes the most sense.

I'm personally convinced that the bible's primary message is salvation by God's grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Even the old testament has masses of prophetic utterance about the significance of Jesus, Who He Was, Is and came to do. Peter was one of many important messengers from God, who was distinct in that He was one of the personal, earthly disciples of Jesus Christ who were entrusted with preaching the gospel right at the beginning. Peter like all of us, made mistakes but the amazing thing is that despite this, God worked through him. If you compare what was written about Peter in the gospels and the book of acts as well as 1 and 2 Peter, you can see a marked maturing and profound change in Peter.

It seems to me that he changed from a bull headed and impulsive twit into a prayerful and very deep thinking man, once he had understood the significance of Christ's finished work on the cross for him and all who trust in Jesus.
