A Glimpse Into the Emporos In the Babylon of Prophecy
Revelation 18 appears to be about economic Babylon, but the message in this chapter is broader
than a focus upon the merchants, from the Greek word emporos, meaning world traders. Verse 4 warns "...Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." While this can be taken as a warning to come out of all things meant by Babylon in prophecy, its more important call is spiritual, to come out of false religion, out of the church after the falling away from sound doctrine (II Thessalonians 2: 3-4).
Merchants, from emporos, is used in verses 3, 11, 15 and 23.
"For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies." 3
"And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
10. Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11.And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:"
"The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
13. And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men."
Note that the Babylon of prophecy deals not only in goods but also in the souls of men, and the false religion of Babylon especially deals with the souls of men. The Babylon of prophecy is also found in Jeremiah 50 and 51. For example Jeremiah 51: 6 says "Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD's vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence."
Not only is God going to judge false religion as Babylon, but he is to judge the entire world system of which false religion, including Christianity under leaders leaning to man's own understanding, is a part.
�The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing.� 15
Revelation 18: 23 says "And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived."
"For thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived."
Sorceries is from the Greek φαρμακεια, or pharmakeia, Strong's Exhaustive Concordance number 5331, is said to mean "medication, �pharmacy,� magic, literally or figuratively - sorcery, witchcraft.�
So sorceries in Revelation 18: 23 can mean both that the merchants as world traders of Babylon drug the nations with their medications, but also in a broader sense, Babylon and her merchants, the giant international corporations, deceive the world by their more figurative �magic� or witchcraft, the allure and bait of these merchants to appeal to the flesh of men. Remember I John 2: 16, �For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.�
The giant international pharmceutical corporations, many of whom are headquarted in America, and the medical profession, are also the world traders, the εμποροι, or emporoi.

"Given this unseemly state of affairs, some believe we are on
the precipice of a medical end-of-times or �Pharmageddon," if you will,
where medicine is no longer directly associated in any way with
healing, but rather is a form of mass control and a highly organized
means of simultaneously defrauding the public of its wealth and
health."
"After all, is there any greater absurdity than a medical model that
treats the symptoms of disease with sub-lethal dosages of toxic
chemicals and in which there is no attempt to uncover, understand or
remove the causes of those imbalances?"
Here they cite part of Revelation 18: 23, "...for thy merchants were
the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations
deceived."
They are interpreting this part of Revelation 18: 23 to mean that the
drug companies and their doctor salesmen as the merchants (emporoi, the world
traders, or international merchants) are deceiving the nations (the
peoples of the world) by their pharmakeia, or drug sorcery. As a part
of the Babylon of prophecy the drug
companies and the medical establishment are deceiving the nations by using drugs.
The medicine men and drug companies claim thir drugs heal people, but in
reality many of the toxic chemicals they sell at enormous prices are harmful
to the human body.
The medical establishment has to claim that doctors make use of science in their practice
of drugs and surgery. Yet some, or a great many, of the procedures of the doctors are based upon
medical tradition and not empirical data from experiments. Now, in the early 21st century,
for example, there is a conflict between what the giant pharmaceutical companies and the doctors
say about the use of multiple vaccinations on very young children and what empirical data suggests.
Interestingly, during the last few decades the more exact science of genetics has been able to do work which supports the hypothesies that not only are there markers in human DNA that are predictice for
life span and the development of degenerative diseases - such as cancer, heart disease or diabetes - but that a substance of biochemestry has been identified which can, at least in part, correct the damage to the DNA from oxidation and inflammation.
While research on the effects of human nutrition, exercise and stress on the body tends to be a "soft" science, genetics, on the other hand, is a more exact "hard" science, more like physics, chemistry and biochemestry. So, combining what is already known about the effects of diet and food supplements, plus exercise, or the lack of it, and stress, with the recent exact science of the importance of chromosome ends, called Telomeres and the biochemical called Telomerase, which is able to repair the Temomeres, makes all of this a more exact science. As a more exact science research on the effects of stress, lack of exercise, diet and food supplements upon Telomerase and chromosome ends, this more exact or "hard" science is harder for the giant pharmaceutical corporations and the medical profession to discredit and try to tell us that what we need are drugs and surgery and not "quack" health food stuff.

This is a summary article which is worth reading.
This particular research on telomere length and telomerase activity is not genetic tampering. The knowledge that reducing stress, getting regular exercise and eating certain foods and taking certain food supplements can extend the life spans of some can stand alone without the support from the more exact science of genetics, that is, the recent findings on telomere length and life span and that telomerase can fix shortened telomere length.
Creating genetically modified plants, called GMOs, is genetic tampering - and it is possible that some in the blacker halls of science have tampered with animal genetics and maybe even with human genetics, which, like tampering with plant genetics, is going against what God created.
