A Look At the Pale Horse of Revelation 6: 8
�And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth� (Revelation 6:8).
The Greek word translated pale is chloros, or green. There are white, red and black horses, but in nature there are no green horses. Something is strange about this fourth horse in the quartet of horses. He is different from the white, red and black horses, which can be identified with the first three kingdoms of Daniel 7, the lion, bear and leopard empiures. These empires of Daniel 7 are parallel to the pre-Cross empires of Daniel 2, the Babylonian, Persian, Greek and Roman empires.
The Daniel 7 governments or empires are post-Cross, The Egyptian and Assyrian Empires came before the Babylonian, Persian, Greek and Roman pre-Cross empires. Likewise, two empires after the Cross were the Holy Roman and Spanish empires, which came before the British, Russian Soviet Union, Nazi Germany and U.S. empires. So, there were six pre-cross empires, and six post-cross ones.
Death and Hell are capitalized. And Death and Hell appear together in Isaiah 28: 15-18, "Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:"
Revelation 20: 13 says "And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works."
Revelation 20: 14 says "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death."
It is almost as though Death and Hell are seen as persons.
But there is one verse in which Hell comes before Death. "I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."
Though Death and Hell are the two forces Satan uses against the truth of Christ, yet Christ himself has full control over Death and Hell.
Death is associated with the spirit of anti-Christ, which denies that Christ as fully God came in the flesh, or tries to diminish the work of Christ on the Cross and seeks to overthrow his doctrines. Since Christ came to bring life (John 10:10), then that which opposes the Gospel of Christ is Death, the spirit of anti-Christ. Hell as the second force of Satan is associated with the False Prophet. In Revelation 9: 3-5 the locust-scorpions are given power (exousia) to hurt "...only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads." "And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man."
Those who do not have the seal of God, indicating they have the Holy Spirit and Christ in them, correspond to those whose third part is killed in Revelation 9: 14-18. Since man is a three part being, created in the three part image of God, killing man's third part means killing his spirit.
Lets go back to the text of Revelation 6: 8. It says "And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with the sword, and with hunger, and with death, and the beasts of the earth."
We need to be careful not to misinterpret this sentence. Death and Hell are given power (exousia) over a fourth part of the earth to kill by means of the sword, or war, with hunger, and with death, and by the beasts (therion) of the earth. The fourth part of the earth could be Islam, but we should not jump immediately to the conclusion that this only means that Islam is given exousia to kill their enemies who are not Islamic. We have to first figure out what relation Death and Hell has with Islam. Death and Hell are spiritual forces of Satan, which God allows to be used. Since Death is associated with the spirit of anti-Christ, then Hell is associated with the False Prophet of Revelation 13: 11-18, who represents many false prophets. Is Hell only Christian false prophets? Or does it include Islamic false prophets?
To say that it is only Islam which kills by war, hunger, Death and by the beasts of the earth is too simple an interpretation. Death and Hell, which include the spirit of anti-Christ and the False Prophet, in both Christianity and Islam - during the time of the pale horse - kill with war, hunger and by the beasts of the earth.
And - it is interesting that William Tyndale in his 1526 English Bible, with the New Testament from the Greek Textus Receptus, translates therion in Revelation 6: 8 as vermin. The Tyndale Bible for Revelation 6: 8 says "And I looked. And behold a green (pale) horse, and his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed after him, and power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, that cometh of vermin of the earth." This version of the Tyndale Bible - at http://faithofgod.net/TyNT/rv.htm#6:1 - does not use the old English spellings of Tyndale.
What are vermin? They are little bugs which annoy people. But in 1526 they did not know what bacteria and viruses were, and vermin were sometimes carriers of deadly germs.
"And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth..." "Them" are Death and Hell. Power is from Strong's Exhaustive Concordance Number 1849, exousia, which is said to mean "privilege, force, capacity, competency, freedom, mastery, ...authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength."
Exousia, translated as power, appears also in Revelation 13: 4, 5, 7, and 12.
"And they worshipped the dragon which gave power (exousia) unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast?"
"And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power (exousia) was given unto him to continue forty and two months."
"And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power (exousia) was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations."
And Revelation 13: 12 is about power (exousia) being given to the second beast of Revelation 13, the false prophet. "And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed."
Remember that the beast which verses 4, 5 and 7 are talking about includes the head of the first beast whose deadly wound was healed. In other words, the first beast of Revelation 13 is a composite beast. Its government, but more than one government.
The Greek word exousia has a different meaning than Strong's number 1411, dunamis, to be able, power, strength, mighty. We get our word dynamite from dunamis. Exousia, on the other hand, can also mean authority and jurisdiction.
Authority and jurisdiction was given to Death and Hell who are associated with the period of the pale horse.
The use of exousia rather than dunamis in Revelation 6: 8, saying that authority and jurisdiction was given to Death and Hell at the time of the pale horse indicates that Death and Hell are being given an increase in their spiritual power at this time. They existed before as spiritual powers, but during the time of the pale horse they are more powerful.
Death and Hell are two spiritual forces, almost like personifications, which are from Satan. As spiritual forces, they have an influence on that which is physical, that is, on the world of politics, economics, culture, propaganda, deception, collectivism, totalitarian society and totalitarian government.. But Death and Hell are not to be literal guys who appear during the reign of the pale horse. One or both of them are not THE anti-Christ.
�For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places� (Ephesians 6:12).
John did not talk about one super anti-Christ world leader who would appear at the end time. He said antichrist shall come, meaning what he says in I John 4: 3, that there is a spirit of antichrist which inhabits many.
��as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists�� (I John 2:18).
These two factions of the Dragon's divided house might be said to be associated or behind the concepts known as as the spirit of anti-Christ and the �False Prophet,� but the two forces, Death and Hell, of iniquity, are not individuals, they are the Spirits of devils:
�For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty� (Revelation 16:14).
THERE WILL BE 2 COMINGS OF JESUS ON THE SAME LAST DAY!!
��� ��Revelation 1:7:� �Look, He is coming with the *CLOUDS*, and *EVERY EYE* will see Him, even those who pierced Him!� This 2nd Coming of Jesus with the *CLOUDS* is also mentioned in Matt 24:30 and I Thess 4:17 and in Matthew 26:64: Jesus replied, �But I say to all of you:� In the future you {Unsaved Jews at His trial} will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty one and coming on the *CLOUDS* of heaven!����
There will be 2 Comings of Jesus on the same Last Day.� The First Coming will be *FOR* His saints and His second Coming will be *WITH* His saints on Heavenly White Horses right after they celebrate the Marriage Feast of the Lamb. {Read Rev 19:7-9 & Rev 17:11,14} They will conquer 666 and his 10 armies {See Rev 19:19-21}. This then explains the resurrection of God's saints in Luke 17:30,35: Jesus says, �It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is *REVEALED....two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.� All of the lost who are left behind when Jesus is *REVEALED; will later be judged and then sent to hell on that same Last Day. {See 2 Thess 1:6-10; John 5:28,29; 12:48; Daniel 12:1,2,7b & Matt 25:31-33;41-46} Pre-tribbers wrongly teach that Luke 17:30,35 above and Matt 24:40-41 prove a pre-trib rapture.
������ Jesus {See Rev 1:10,18} said to John in Rev 1:19: �Write what you have seen, WHAT IS NOW {Rev chapters 2 & 3} and *WHAT WILL TAKE PLACE LATER*.� {Rev chapters 6-22}� Events that will occur on the Last Day are recorded in Rev 6:12-17; Rev 11:15-19; Rev 14:14-20; Rev 16:17-21; Rev 19:1-21 & Rev 20:9b-15.� Question: How many words in Revelation, chapters 6-22 are devoted to a rapture before the beginning of the Great Tribulation??� Answer: *ZERO*!! In Rev 4:1 Jesus invited John to come up to Heaven in AD 96 so that he could write what he saw.� Rev 4:1b: Jesus said to John in AD 96, �Come up here, and I will show you *WHAT MUST TAKE PLACE.�� Unfortunately, there are some pre-tribbers who teach that Rev 4:1 actually proves a *CONCEALED* rapture of the church saints before the beginning of the Great Tribulation; which shows a *NEW LOW in honest Bible exegesis. How many words in the Olivet discourse are devoted to a rapture before the Great Tribulation?� Answer: *ZERO*!! The Olivet discourse by Jesus about the End-Times are recorded in Matt 24 & 25, Mark 13 and Luke 21.� Events which will occur on the Last Day of the Tribulation including the 2nd Coming are recorded in Matt 24:29-31; Matt 25:31-46; Mark 13:24-27 & Luke 21:25-28.�
Rev 22:16,18,19: Jesus says, �I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give *YOU* {The Greek for YOU is plural} this testimony {ALL OF REVELATION} *FOR* the CHURCHES.� This contradicts the ridiculous pre-trib idea that Revelation, chapters 4-19, was not written *FOR* the CHURCHES! The word �CHURCH�is also not mentioned in 9 books of the NT: John, Mark, Luke, 2 Tim, 1 John, 2 John, 1 Peter, 2 Peter and Jude; and is not mentioned in the first 15 chapters of Romans and yet every word in all these NT books are �FOR THE CHURCHES�..... �I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book.� If anyone *ADDS anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.� And if anyone *TAKES WORDS AWAY from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city which are described in this book.�
ARE CHURCH SAINTS WASHED IN THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB MENTIONED DURING THE GREAT TRIBULATION IN REVELATION CHAPTERS 6 THROUGH 19??
We see Church saints during the Great Tribulation in Revelation 7:9,14; Rev 12:11,17; Rev 13:8-11; Rev 17:6 and in many other places we read of God's faithful and courageous Tribulation saints.
Rev 7:9,14: "There before me was a great multitude that no one could count , from **EVERY** nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.....The Elder said, "These are they who have come out of the Great Tribulation {martyrs}; they have washed their robes in the BLOOD OF THE LAMB!!"
Just before the coming of 666 and the 1260-day Great Tribulation in Revelation 13:1 we read in Rev 12:17 Then the dragon {Satan} was enraged at the woman {Sarah} and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring--THOSE WHO OBEY GOD'S COMMANDMENTS AND HOLD TO THE TESTIMONY OF JESUS!!"
Rev 12:11: "They overcame him {Satan} by the BLOOD OF THE LAMB and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. "
Revelation 13:8,10b: The inhabitants of the earth will worship the Beast {666}--all whose names have not written in the BOOK OF LIFE BELONGING TO THE LAMB... This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints.
Rev 17:6: "I saw that the woman {Rome} was drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus."
During the Great Tribulation with 666 in control of every nation tribe and language it will no longer be safe for the saints to worship in churches.
It is time for all pre-trib *ADDERS* to repent; and all CLOSET Post-Tribbers to come out of their closets and teach ALL of God's Word as per 2 Tim 4:1-8 since the End-Times are very near. Paul was inspired to write in 2 Timothy 4:8: �There is in store for me the Crown of Righteousness which the Lord will award to me on *THAT DAY*�and not only to me, but to *ALL who have longed for *HIS APPEARING*.� THE ETERNAL RENDEZVOUS WITH JESUS!
