The parable of the sower

Ok, you know the one I'm referring to, about scattering the seed and it falling on different kinds of land. My question is this: why would the sower scatter seed amongst rocky ground or on the path as neither of these are conducive for a good harvest?:dunce: If you were a farmer, would you do that or would you use it on fertile ground instead where a harvest was more likely?
